Matteus Oliveira SantosMatteusWP:COMMONNAME for the footballer is just "Matteus", which is already a redirect to the page. Ortizesp (talk) 21:21, 24 January 2022 (UTC)— Relisting. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 16:49, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Lennart97 (talk) 11:33, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ortizesp: Is this consistent with WP:MONONYM? [D]on't use a first name (even if unambiguous) for an article title if the last name is known and fairly often used. I can't tell from the search coverage how often he's referred to by his full name, but it looks like it might meet "fairly often". Might be a better question for an RM to decide. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:36, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All of the references list him without his last names, he's exclusively known as Matteus in a sporting sense.--Ortizesp (talk) 04:47, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely convinced of that, from my reading of the sources, but I won't stand in the way of another PMR/sysop if they want to move it. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 06:03, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I second you Tamzin. A random google search also reveals otherwise. If "Matteus" was the COMMONNAME, Google and related sources would be giving that more hits, but it is far, very far. ─ The Aafī (talk) 07:55, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Really there's two questions here: One, is he referred to by his surname so rarely that a mononymic title is justified. And two, is he really the primary topic for this given name? If not, Matteus should probably redirect to Mateus (name), with the footballer to either stay at the current title or be moved to Matteus (footballer) depending on the answer to the first question. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 09:03, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lennart97: JSYK, that didn't ping me. Not sure why, but I think the issue is that Echo figures out that you copied my signature at least once, correctly says "So those mentions of her username weren't meant as pings" and then goes the extra step of "So none of the mentions of her username were meant as pings". Easiest way to avoid it is probably to just send any pings as a separate edit from any post copy-pasting a discussion. Regardless, assuming the others weren't pinged either, @Ortizesp and TheAafi. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 11:39, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Tamzin, I will keep this in mind :) Lennart97 (talk) 11:41, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support since it's gone to AFD for several reasons. I'm not opposed to Matteus (footballer), but don't think there's a point.
  1. He's the only person on the English Wikipedia project with this spelling variation as a name.
  2. His overwhelming WP:COMMONNAME is just "Matteus", doesn't use his legal name in a sporting sense. All of the referneces on his page list him as just Matteus without even mentioning his last name: 1, 2, 3, 4.--Ortizesp (talk) 16:13, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
