Oconomowoc name

I was looking at the article and the name explanation just rubbed me wrong. Looking into it, I came across this citation:

Oconomowoc was derived from Coo-no-mo-wauk. This was the Pottawatomie term for distinguishing a waterfall in the vicinity. "Beaver dam," although one of the joking interpretations has been "I-can-no-mo'-walk. Oconomowog is an Algic, not a Chippewa word. It is perhaps a corrupt form of "okanima," a bone. Perhaps there are nearby bone-hills, "Buttes des morts," possibly so called from the discovery of human bones in Indian mounds. Oh-kun-nim-muh-gag, "the region of beaver dam woods," i.e where timber for beaver dam grows. There are other words and designations suggestive of the American name, but the historic fact as to which one actually gave the name to the place.

but this disturbed be even more. Why? Other than to say "Oconomowog is an Algic, not a Chippewa word." since Ojibwe is most indeed Algic, the primary explanation of a waterfall doesn't sound right, because the word would be negon..., "fall...," not wgon..., "hang...." And the structure also don't allow for the water to be doing something (such as falling or joining, etc) but rather someone doing something... maybe by the waterfalls. The "beaver dam" is plausable (wkonemakog, "at/by the beaver dam wood"; wkonmekig, "at the beaver dam land"; wkonmakkig, "at the beaver dam wood land") but then I would have expected an "Oconomococ" or alike instead. The "bone-hill" explanation of wkenmadnag is too unlike "Oconomowoc." So, I wonder if maybe the waterfalls is the correct clue but not the correct explanation. Maybe the correct explanation ought to have been something like wgawen amewag, "Where the walleyes spawn" and those spawning grounds were located near the waterfalls. Audio file removed

This article had the wrong audio file. There was File:En-us-Wisconsin.ogg, which is a recorded pronunciation of "Wisconsin", and does not belong here. A file named File:En-us-Oconomowoc.ogg or anything similar currently does not exist. --Theurgist (talk) 10:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Notable people section

I removed Jack Sutte from this section because the Wikipedia guideline states that a person must have their own Wikipedia article to establish notability and he does not. Based on WP:NNC, WP:NRV, and WP:PEOPLELIST, as well as the continued presence of external media coverage of Jack Sutte (there have been quite a few articles, small posts, and blips about him, even eight years after the comment above), I believe he does in fact belong in the list. Additionally, he was notable enough to be put on Oconomowoc's list in the first place. PolyversialMind (talk) 02:29, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
