Robert E. Grant (dentist)Robert E. Grant (politician) – The subject is more notable for being a politician and military captain than for being a dentist. By far, I reckon. 67.14.236.50 (talk) 06:48, 11 January 2018 (UTC)--Relisting.usernamekiran(talk) 15:44, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I considered it, but I could find no evidence of further political involvement, and the name is common. Although he supposedly served until the end of the American Civil War, I have no idea in what unit, and speculate that he may have continued his dental profession rather than led a unit. I haven't done huge amounts of research given the commonness of his name and my location in northern Virginia rather than Richmond or Abingdon (much less Texas), but an army does need dentists. The Stonewall Brigade presumably needed medics, and Richmond also had lots of hospitals during the conflict.Jweaver28 (talk) 16:40, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is he notable because he was a dentist? This article focuses on his political and military career, with no mention of orthodontic work in either aspect, so my guess would be no. It doesn’t matter how successful he was or wasn’t; what matters is why people wrote about him. I don’t have access to the sources you cited, but from what’s written here, it doesn’t sound like that reason was dentistry. —67.14.236.50 (talk) 23:51, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Or actually, first, is he notable? Please see the general notability guideline. Again, I don’t have access to your sources; do they discuss him in depth, or just in passing? The high page numbers and their narrow ranges make me dubious. —67.14.236.50 (talk) 01:27, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Grant is in fact notable under a special criterion, WP:NPOL#1, and I believe disambiguation should highlight the main reason for notability. If there are other politicians by this name, disambiguation can use initials, or the subject's full name if such variations are part of the WP:COMMONNAME. Alternatively, disambiguation may identify state of origin, birth year or most notable office held. See the disambiguation pages Joe Brown, Joseph Timilty, Chen Chieh-ju, or Joshua Wright for an example of each disambiguation type. Vycl1994 (talk) 06:50, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
