Scissor kick (martial arts)Scissors kick (strike) – Named after the plural word scissors not Scissor (gladiator type) comp.arch (talk) 10:24, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested at WP:RMTR, brought here for discussion. EdJohnston (talk) 17:47, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Google search indicates that both 'scissor kick' and 'scissors kick' enjoy wide usage and are quite understandable. In my opinion 'scissors kick' is harder to say and is unpleasant to the ear. If this move were done there should be a space in the title, so it should be Scissors kick (strike). • Oppose......It's true the name refers to a pair of scissors, but the name of the technique is still a scissor kick. I can understand your reasoning, but i disagree with your conclusion. The name is established, and changing it would threaten broad understanding of the topic. It's like saying, Brazilian jujitsu is actually a derivative of Judo, something most understand, so let's rename the article to Brazilian judo, it might possibly be an accurate name, but it's a name that considerably less people will connect with the topic, and furthermore it conflicts with the name in common usage. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea. — Jdcollins13 (talk) 18:06, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as per the others. I fixed the request, too. Red Slash 19:30, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose though Scissor kick (martial arts) might be clearer given the football usage, and consistent with Sweep (martial arts). In ictu oculi (talk) 00:29, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. I've preemptively moved it there, and then we'll see if consensus develops for a pluralized title. Red Slash 21:21, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Undecided/Oppose/indifferenct.. Hi, I asked for the change. I just assumed it was a spelling error, but didn't only assume that but googled and found "scissors kick" (and "scissor kick"). I now realize that it is probably is/or could be named after the verb to scissor that doesn't end in s (and can't then say it's a typo for sure). I just stumbled on this page and do not really care about it per se one way or the other, just in general trying to improve Wikipedia. Consider the vote (I didn't ask for) cancelled on my part. comp.arch (talk) 14:58, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
