Merger proposal[edit]

The result of this discussion (no reaction in 3.5 months) was to merge. Jerryobject (talk) 00:38, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The guidance found in Help:Merging and Wikipedia:Merging states that it is reasonable to merge articles for: "unnecessary duplication of content, significant overlap with the topic of another page, and minimal content that could be covered in ... the context of a page on a broader topic."

Thus, it seems reasonable and efficient to merge the two articles, Sony S1 and Sony S2. The direction of the merge is flexible. It could be Sony S2 merged into Sony S1, or vice versa, though there seems little reason to prefer or advocate either direction.

As of mid-May 2011, the content of both articles is nearly identical. In future, the history of both devices is likely to be strongly related and coupled throughout both product's life cycles.

The content of both articles can easily be explained in the context of one. Both articles are of a size such that the merging will cause no problems as to article size. One article on this topic will be stronger, easier to understand, and smaller overall, than two separate articles.

The article name(s) will need changing, likely twice: once when merged, and once when the devices are released for sale in fall 2011, since they almost surely will get different names then.

Some possible interim names for the merged article:

  • Sony tablets
  • Sony S1, S2
  • Sony S1-2

Any interim name will be temporary, lasting only four to six months, until fall 2011, when Sony reveals more permanent names. Thus, an interim name seems not worth much effort, discussion, conflict, etc.

Thank you for your consideration and input. Jerryobject (talk) 04:43, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to split the article to 3 seperate articles per tablet model[edit]

I think it would be sensible to split the article instead of having that huge blank space between the descriptions of each tablet and 3 infoboxes in the same page. Hakimio (talk) 19:11, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet. We don't have enough info to expand this article. If this article grows too big, then splitting it will make sense. --Aizuku (talk) 00:31, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the current structure, it seems to make sense to use Sony Tablet as an overall host page for all tablets with pictures as reference and links to main pages (e.g., Tablet S, Tablet P, Xperia S, Z). Sony Tablet S seems to have a fairly robust main article. However, Tablet P doesn't. We do need to add Xperia S and Z to this article, though.Antithongs (talk) 23:54, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
