Conflict of Interest Response[edit]

Hi Jim, the newspaper ceased publication in 2004 with just the archives remaining at the National Library of Wales and some in my possession, which I worked on over the years. I'm currently comparing notes with the Library to see what gaps exist for posterity and filling these where I can. I'm drafting the Wikipedia article for the same reason and as a tribute to everyone who worked on the newspaper over its sixteen-year lifetime. I see no conflict in this but as a Wikipedia newbie I've still to understand some of the finer points and principles. File Deletion Request[edit]

Jim, the conflict of interest question seems to have arisen from the file deletion request. The file has been deleted a second time before I had a chance to respond to the questions below. They were posed 2 days ago and I only came across them when I noticed the deletion in the Draft:This Week Newspaper page. Should I have received direct notification and been given a chance to respond before the debate was closed? I'm still finding my way on this.

I've responded to the questions in this space because the answers may also help answer the conflict of interest question:

1. Is User:Caerhys actually Terry Jackson?
Yes. I lived in the property Cae Rhys where the newspaper was conceived and is part of its history brought out in the draft article.
2. Is this actually the front page of the newspaper from 1998?
Yes. Copies of the newspaper sit in the National Library of Wales archive and all such references will be in place once I've completed the draft ready for review.
3. If "yes", then does Jackson actually own the individual copyrights?
The contributions were made by freelance editors on the understanding that content was copyright-free or 'open source', though this wasn't a phrase in currency at the time; it would have been CC BY-SA had Creative Commons licensing been invented by then.
4. Does Jackson actually own the copyright to the newspaper as a whole?
Copyright ownership of the newspaper was not an issue and was never claimed. I've been a long-time advocate of copyright-free content, referred to more often as 'open data' and it would have been hypocrisy to act otherwise.
5. All three of these can be dealt with by a full statement using OTRS.

This is an essential part of the newspaper's history, which is brought out in the draft article. Jim, I've asked today for the File:THIS WEEK southwales1998.jpg to be undeleted in Wikipedia Commons following the deletion request and given my reasons why. I've also made a full statement using OTRS as advised in the deletion request but I must admit my head is spinning between Wikipedia and Wikipedia Commons in trying to resolve both the file deletion and conflict of interest issues. Neutral Point of View[edit]

The article is being drafted as an historic document recording verifiable facts known to the author at first hand. The facts are recounted in a neutral tone of voice for the record, and as they were established. They are verified by notations giving evidence of their existence for the sake of posterity. The newspaper itself is a reliable source owing to the diligence of its production team. The team was finally disbanded in 2004 when the newspaper ceased publication. Images of the newspaper's pages provide evidence of features mentioned in the draft article.
