How many tracks are on a typical disk ?[edit]

Assuming that a modern drive stores 1 TB on a single platter, and that the shape of a bit on a drive is approximately square and the disk has tracks all the way up to the middle:

$8.10^{12}=\sum _{r=0}^{n}2\pi r\Rightarrow n=1595769$

And all the data is infinitely close to the outer edge:
