Splitting the article, or merging as new section on raid article[edit]

Both the "Overview" and "Software RAID vs. Hardware RAID" sections contain general information about RAID, which do not fix well into the context of Vinum article. They should be integrated into Redundant_array_of_independent_disks or similar categories.

Also, more vinum specific details are also required. E.g. history of (g)vinum, architectural design of (g)vinum, terminology, RAID organisation supported etc.

Don't create a new page Hardware RAID compared to Software RAID. Just merge the section into RAID, the topic is already covered there. --Kubanczyk 16:27, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A search for "vinum," a latin term meaning "wine" brought me straight to this page. Can this topic be split from the real vinum?

I agree with either aproach:

Split the "section(s) in question" to it's own article -- anything that doesn't relate to the vinum BSD project shouldn't be here... (or)

(kinda) related info could be summarized, with "link to a main article" on raid or whatever (as opposed to new article)

Material has been merged into RAID at RAID#Volume_manager_support in November 2010 following the above request, and the article title redirected to RAID#Vinum - over time the Vinum section was edited and renamed Volume_manager_support, so the redirect was no longer precise. The material from here remains in the RAID article, though the redirect has been undone, revealing the material and the material is possibly now duplicated. People may wish to discuss the question of merging or splitting this article once again, or perhaps returning the material in RAID back into this article. I have no opinion either way, though I have removed the old merge and split request tags as they apply to a situation that has changed.
