Seasons of occurrence[edit]

  • This states that the winter games will be held in early spring. I'm gathering this article bases its times on one hemisphere of the planet and not the other. Perhaps changing it to months would better suit. --ClEeFy 12:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In response, it is sort of weird to hear it said like that, but the source I used said exactly that. But when you think about it, the normal Winter Olympics are held in late February, toward the end of winter, so it don't sound that different, just weird. Official candidates[edit]

The IOC has announced the cities that have submitted a bid to host the first Summer YOG in 2010. Eleven cities have applied: Algiers, Athens, Bangkok, Belgrade, Debrecen, Guatemala City, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Poznan, Singapore and Turin. Parutakupiu 15:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2012 Youth Winter Games and Template[edit]

I put the Winter bid on this page because I didn't want to get too far ahead like the Main Olympiad Pages. Unless you think a seperate page should be made already. Pic of Singapore[edit]

Just to point out as per my comments in User_talk:Cbradshaw#RE:Singapore_2010_YOG that I feel a general picture of downtown Singapore is of little educational value in an article on an Olympic event. By all means show images related to the bid process or a major sports event if available, without which one should not simply show any random picture and add unnecesary bandwidth stress to those using slower networks.--Huaiwei (talk) 05:57, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Qualifying/Tryouts[edit]

They don't chose athletes 18 months before the games, for the regular olympics, athletes get chosen just a few weeks before the games, not one major news article says this, neither does the main website and the only article that does say it is not from a major news network and doesn't use any quotes or citations. If athletes were chosen a year and half early (which would be this coming February), then the youth games would have been well known to them by now (which very few people have even heard of), and the main website for Singapore 2010 would have mentioned it a long time ago. —Preceding unsigned comment added by A8709865a (talk • contribs) 07:10, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Editor X. As you can see, it is a lot easier to communicate when you explain your issues rather than just blindly deleting material. I am reinserting the information with a note that there needs further documentation. If that item is incorrect, time will tell. However, there is no need to delete the other information in the paragraph as well as a newssource, be it major or minor. (Btw, it is a college newspaper, which while hardly infallible, is certainly concerned with the age group suggested for the YOG). Okay, but athletes being chosen that early still seems very unrealistic. I am a youth athlete myself going to big events in and outside my country, and I haven't heard of (or researched) anything about trials for the Youth Olympics, neither have others, considering February 2009 is not a long time from now.

Does anyone find it very odd that they are restricting the age for most events to fit a 2 year window, but the event itself is only every 4 years. This means that there will be kids that will never be eligible to compete at the YOC. MATThematical (talk) 00:06, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarised/ Was plagiarised?[edit]

Hmm... I was browsing through the references, when this one article caught my eye, about U.S.'s interest in the YOG 2012. So I clicked on it, and lo and behold, I saw that in paragraphs 6 to 10, it was identical to four of the article's paragraph. "I wonder how, I wonder why..." That information was added a long time ago, I may have added it. Most of the sentences there are straightforward fact (such as stating the budget guidelines), and therefore, have little room for creative writing. Please, feel free to rewrite it if you wish. Why do they allow athletes older than 13 in these Youth Games, and what will be the impact on records?[edit]

So that means you can have a 14-year old swimmer participate in BOTH the Summer Games and the Youth Games the same year? Olympiad in host city table[edit]

I changed the Olympiad in the host city tables. Originally they were what I think is the Olympiads calculated from the original modern Summer Olympics in 1896. Problem is that the summer YOG had a XXX Olympiad and the winter YOG also had a XXX olympiad in different years. That seems a bit confusing. What makes this issue sticky is that the Summer Olympics mark the Olympiad while the Winter Olympics mark the actual number of Olympics held. For the YOG it's a clean slate, as I don't see any precedence set by the IOC yet. So I took the initiative and renumbered each Games as the first, second and third of their respective season. If someone can find an IOC directive on this or has a dispute with what I've done I'll happily discuss the matter. H1nkles (talk) citius altius fortius 20:29, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have reverted. See the article Olympiad. The Olympiad is an absolute notion, independent from the Games you are talking about. It is defined by the Olympic Charter. It is a period of four years which starts the First of January of the year of the Games of the Olympiad. The first Olympiad is starting on January 1 1896. We are currently living in the XXIX Olympiad, the XXX Olympiad starts on January 1 2012. Hektor (talk) 10:51, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the issues I found:

  • "lasted 12 days; the winter version" should be comma
  • "14–15 years, and" remove the and
  • "Finally no nation" comma after finally.
  • "The election was held on February 10, 2010, 2 days before the start" two days.

Why don't you save on the page that they have been cancelled? When you look up this page it gets very confusing. Please fix it.
