Maybe?[edit]

I don't know if this template works. I mean, it does and it's useful, but having lived in the Appleton, it doesn't feel like most people consider Appleton to be the most important. It's just the largest. What if we had a template called "Fox Cities", that was identical to this one except listing Appleton as part of "Large Cities (population over 50,000)" or something? It just doesn't make sense to me to have the Appleton template on the Kaukauna page. Thor Rudebeck 03:09, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's a very Kaukauna-centric perspective... :-) That said, I have to agree with you... really, although some Appletonians have a superiority complex vis-à-vis the rest of the Fox Cities, I think most people in the FCs area hold a much more "egalitarian" view of the importance of the various municipalities, and, in fact, regard local municipal boundaries as much less significant (mostly, I think, as a result of the valiant anti-annexation/pro-home-rule efforts of the people in Grand Chute, more than any other factor) than the way in which they're viewed in most of the rest of the state. The template is presently called Template:Appleton, Wisconsin... where the "problem" comes in is that Appleton is the "core city" of the Census Bureau's definition of "metropolitan area", which obliterates local concerns and sentiment. The Project, of course, is not governed by the Census Bureau's definitions, and, indeed, if it were, the Template would take on a very different form (including every municipality and even minor civil division w/in Outagamie and Calumet Counties...) so, I think we're pretty free to form our own "boundaries"...as long as we can do so within the bounds of consensus. Would you support moving/transfering this template to Template:Fox Cities, and, if so, how would you differentiate between the current form of this Template and the related Template:Oshkosh, Wisconsin?
