Order[edit]

Should we not list them in order of entry into confederation? -- Moxy (talk) 14:08, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think there are only two ways of ordering provinces and territories. Alphabetically, which is how someone would read through a list of places, or by precedence, which would be in order of entry into confederation. If you stop to think about, which I have in my time on Wikipedia, you would realize that west to east makes no sense for an encyclopedic list. Canada is one of the few countries that has its provinces organized in a row. You wouldn't expect to see a list of states of the United States or Germany listed from west to east. We should avoid listing provinces this way. Since the precedence order is lesser known, I would prefer alphabetical for this template. 117Avenue (talk) 03:23, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@117Avenue: I see. I wouldn't be opposed to alphabetical order. To be honest, I didn't even notice that it was in alphabetical order already, I just saw Saskatchewan beside Quebec and thought that it looked very odd. Also what thew me off was how the provinces were listed in alphabetical order but then without some sort of indication, the territories were alphabetized on the end. The reader not knowing anything about Canada, would not understand this arrangement. I propose to keep the provinces alphabetized and label that row "Provinces" then below it name a second row "Territories" and list the territories in alphabetical order there. It doesn't make sense to have them list all together and have half the list in alphabetical order. If you take a look at Template:United States topic that's how they went about it. Makes sense. 117Avenue (talk) 01:59, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Partially broken[edit]

The template seems to be partially broken when referring to the Northwest Territories. Any list such as List of airlines of the Northwest Territories or

will appear red if there is no corresponding List of airlines of Northwest Territories or List of mines in Northwest Territories. As per

and List of mines in the Northwest Territories . Common usage is "the" Northwest Territories. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 00:29, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Think I've fixed it... needed to account for the format of NWT articles, which is "List of X in the Northwest Territories". —Joeyconnick (talk) 00:04, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Looks better. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 18:31, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
