Alaska categories[edit]

The template has started being used on eg Category:1916 Alaska elections, which it tries to put in the WP:REDNOT category Category:1916 in Territory of Alaska Regardless of the niceties, the convention in the Category:Years in Alaska hierarchy is to just use plain "Alaska" rather than "Territory of Alaska", could someone fix the template accordingly? #ifexist is expensive?[edit]

@BrownHairedGirl:: I'd first put in "#ifexist:" but took them out later because I'd seen somewhere that they were processor-expensive. You've just restored them… does that mean it is ok to use them even though this template is transcluded 6,584 times? —GoldRingChip 21:35, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GoldRingChip: {{Navseasoncats}} uses the same check, and is transcluded on over 240,000 pages without problem.
Yes, it's an expensive function, so it needs to be used sparingly, but ten uses per page is trivial. And category pages have low viewing rates, so the overall impact is trivial. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:42, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! I see. Then that is ok. Thank you. —GoldRingChip 21:51, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
