The current collaborations of the month are Women's History Month: Create or improve articles for women listed at Oregon Women of Achievement (modern) or Women of the West, Oregon chapter (historical).

This template is for companies which formerly were headquartered in Oregon, but which are no longer. This includes those which simply moved their headquarters elsewhere, those which were bought out by an out-of-state entity, and those no longer in business. To be listed here, companies should have met the criteria for Template:ORCompanies at some point in the past, but no longer do so due to location elsewhere or to not being in business.

A question[edit]

Consider two entries on the template: Willamette Industries and Sequent Computer Systems. Both met similar "fates"--both were purchased by an out-of-state entity (Weyerhauser and IBM respectively), and both were integrated into the new corporate parent and their pre-existing corporate entity dissolved. In both cases, the acquiring company continues operations in Oregon, just under a new name. Likewise for Meier & Frank, which is now known as Macy's.

However, Willamette was placed in the "acquired" column; whereas Sequent is under the "out of business" column. Sequent no longer exists as a brand name; but IBM's operations in the Silicon Forest largely continue what Sequent was doing prior to the merger.

How to treat these? The fate of these is different than CF or FPS, both of which went bankrupt and left no successor. The fate of these is also different from Tek, Fred Meyer, Hollywood Video, and Freightliner, all of which continue to operate under the existing brand. (Not to mention US Bank, which was not once but twice bought out by a bigger fish which then abandoned its prior corporate identity to assume the name of "US Bancorp").

Thoughts?

I screwed up when I put Sequent where I did, but as to the general problem we could just lump them all together and not worry about how they became former Oregon companies. A little less work. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
