Replace with redirect to Template:ISO 3166 name (September 9, 2018)[edit]

It basically does the same thing as Template:ISO 3166 name and Template:Iso2lang is a redirect that works similar to how this would works. It puts everything in one place making it easier to edit and it just logical. – BrandonXLF (t@lk) 19:59, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

BrandonXLF, which change do you wish to be made to the template? Enterprisey (talk!) 07:00, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Enterprisey: Yes my bad, I want to replace the contents with #REDIRECT Template:ISO 3166 name.
 Done — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:36, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am reverting this edit, because it caused broken links on literally thousands of articles that invoke this template, mostly indirectly through templates such as {{Europe topic}}. If and when this issue is corrected, feel free to change this back to a redirect again. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 22:04, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 17 February 2019[edit]

Please change the phrase "Republic of Macedonia" to "North Macedonia". The Macedonia naming dispute has ended. Thank you. –Ntmamgtw (talk) 13:04, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 Done -- /Alex/21 14:47, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex 21: Thank youNtmamgtw (talk) 11:19, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex 21: The "The" is still showing up, though, i.e. it's appearing as "The North Macedonia" instead of "North Macedonia". —Mahāgaja · talk 14:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Mahagaja, as far as I can tell from the documentation, you simply need to remove |article=yes. -- /Alex/21 14:30, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex 21: actually I had to remove |MK from {{iso2country/article}}. —Mahāgaja · talk 14:42, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 21 February 2019[edit]

Please change the name from Macedonia to North Macedonia and move North Macedonia after Netherlands. Xaris333 (talk) 20:03, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 Done -- /Alex/21 10:59, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex 21: Something's gone wrong, because at {{Europe topic}} there's just a blank space in [[ |Macedonia]]. And things like {{Economy of Europe}} the link just says "Economy of" instead of "Economy of North Macedonia". —Mahāgaja · talk 13:50, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Alex 21: Yeah, something is wrong. I think you might need to take the phrase:

...which is there, and replace it with just the words:

North Macedonia

...maybe? So it wouldn't be broken and so it would just be sorted like every other country (under N, since South Africa's sorted by S, etc). Paintspot Infez (talk) 18:34, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Paintspot, Mahagaja, Updated. If this does not fix the issue, then I recommend updating the content in the sandbox first and providing testcases, as is the correct way to file an edit protected template request. -- /Alex/21 21:19, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 26 May 2020[edit]

Hello,

ISO 3166-2:PS needs to be changed to State of Palestine. Note the ISO standard was changed in 2013, and that most Wikipedia categories have been renamed or recreated with the new name.

If I understand correctly,

| PS = Palestinian territories

needs to be changed to:

| PS = {{{{{|safesubst:}}}#ifeq:{{{mode|}}}|sort|Palestine, State of|State of Palestine}}

Place Clichy (talk) 07:29, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me. Since this seems like the kind of thing that could be controversial (even if we just follow the ISO standard), {{On hold until|18:00, 28 May 2020 (UTC)}}. (Note to self: edit would be to Template:Iso2country/data). --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 17:40, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Standard:ISO 316, Status of Palestine in the UN – Non-member observer State status – SecGen report (see in particular section: A. Name and status of Palestine), 67/19. Status of Palestine in the United Nations. This a perfectly reasonable request and completely in line with current UN practice (which sets the standard the ISO follows). --Goldsztajn (talk) 18:13, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you're right.  Done. --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 14:56, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 24 November 2022[edit]

Delete:

  • MV (the Maldives → Maldives) Rkt2312 (talk) 20:11, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
On the /article subpage there is only the |MV in the switch. There is more on the /data subpage. My question would be why would we want to delete Maldives from these template subpages? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 12:14, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Completed – Now I understand – this was just to remove the article "the", so "Maldives" stands alone (no "the Maldives"). P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 08:05, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Could somebody please provide some additional context for why this was desired? It caused the automatic generation of a template-transcluded redlink for Category:Politics of Maldives this week, instead of the actually existing Category:Politics of the Maldives, as a parent of Category:Political movements in the Maldives, so it had to be reverted in order to fix that — but I'm conscious of the fact that it may also cause reverse problems if there are places where "Maldives" is actually used in the category name instead of "the Maldives". Special:WantedCategories needs to not see unfixable template-generated categories caused solely by back-and-forthing over whether this template is coded to generate "the Maldives" or just "Maldives" — so one way or the other, this needs to be sorted out so that this template never again causes the generation of another Maldivian category whose redlinked status hinges solely on the presence or absence of the word "the" in a category that already exists at the opposite form.
