Chinese Taipei[edit]

Under the Asian countries, should "Chinese Taipei" be listed with the other countries that start with the letter T since its code is TPE?

The alliance (talk) 18:38, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Entries are sorted by name, not by code.--Huaiwei (talk) 10:56, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about the two Koreas? The Observant (talk) 19:29, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taiwan entered officially as Chinese Taipei in then Games, so the name should be just that. North and South Korea are not a unified team in the Games, so they should also be separated. Xeltran (talk) 04:01, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are the Koreas sorted by their names? The Observant (talk) 22:49, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

israel[edit]

why is, in this template, israel sorted under europe and not asia?! it's not explained anywhere... kernitou talk 06:08, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it is because the Olympic Committee of Israel has been part of the European Olympic Committees after it was "expelled" from the Olympic Council of Asia in 1981.--Huaiwei (talk) 10:59, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the comment kernitou talk 21:12, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It really should be filed under Asia because Israel is an Asian country regardless of what other Asian countries might think. If the template is to help readers navigate, it should be organized in a logical way by geography, not by the twisted politics of various national Olympic committees. —D. Monack talk 05:55, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's organized by the five continental associations, which also explains why there is a single "America" instead of North/South. Perhaps there should be links to Pan American Sports Organization, Olympic Council of Asia, European Olympic Committees, etc. to make this clearer...? — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 06:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
or a small footnote might be better. Eklipse (talk) 12:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

changed americas to america[edit]

Because if it's Africa, Europe, etc. it should be America. Wikitestor (talk) 14:08, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was originally America, per the five continental associations named here before it was changed. Your revert is appropriate, thanks. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 16:43, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree as it's not only North America it's also South America and Central America therefor it's plural and should be Americas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.186.90.174 (talk) 01:01, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
