Comment[edit]

i believe this template to be offensive and pointless, please delete it at once Andrew McArdle 16:28, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only if placed on someone else’s user page. Interqwark talk contribs 01:03, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I assume...[edit]

that we are free to place on our user pages, correct? Boy, this would sure save a lot of time explaining things to people. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 03:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

I thank wikipedia and NicholasTurnbull specifically for creating this and not deleting it. It makes it easier to explain possible times I may either disappear or change editing habits off and on. I post this also in case there are any other future disputes regarding if this template should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jared555 (talkcontribs) 01:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion of template at Jimbo's talk[edit]

There is a discussion that involves this template at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Kindness.2C_fairness_and_understanding:_unfinished_business where I have asked that this template be immediately deprecated.

Apparently the template was used on the talk pages of a user who later suicided. A few months before his death, he hid the warning with the comment "Still current, but seemingly ineffective at stemming others' aggression." I note that the two users who have left comments on this page in support of the template are not using it on their own pages at this time. —Neotarf (talk) 13:36, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also pinging user:NicholasTurnbull who is listed above as the creator of the template. —Neotarf (talk) 13:37, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The best way to get wide spread discussion on this is to nominate it for deletion via MfD. In any event, the 3rd bullet point is just daft, "Limited capacity to respond to.......participate in conflict, ...". Although considering this is Wikipedia maybe that statement is correct! Leaky Caldron 13:57, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Leaky Caudron, LOL, but since since there was a previous deletion discussion that was inconclusive, and since people seem to be finding the template, considering the seriousness of the topic, I would rather leave it up, as something that still might be informational. How does the template work? If you change the text here, does it change for everyone who is using the template? Is there any way of knowing if anyone is using the template now?
And no, someone who knows they are impaired should not be participating. —Neotarf (talk) 15:34, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just click on "what links here" on the template page. I've added "resolution". No idea how it gets transcluded to user pages. Leaky Caldron 15:37, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I count some 37 editors who use the template, many with only a few edits, and one who only uploads pictures but wants an account. Clearly there is some current use for it, but I'm not convinced it isn't a booby-trap for the wrong person.
And yes it appears to be transcluded, your edit is now reflected on the templates already on the user pages. ("Unable to participate in conflict", indeed.) —Neotarf (talk) 18:00, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support adding it to TFD to get a more proper discussion. KonveyorBelt 17:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, why not, especially if that's how to get more eyes on it. If you know how to do it, why don't you list it? —Neotarf (talk) 18:00, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The template by itself is not a problem. For example see this user box. It is used on hundreds of user pages. As I said at Jimbo's talk Wikipedia is full of psychotic, sadistic bullies who like to torture human beings absolutely needlessly. They are the problem, and not editors who are asking for the assistance and understanding for whatever reason.69.181.40.211 (talk) 18:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the template issue is a dead end. After looking further, the situation seems to revolve around a complex relationship between mental health and bullying. —Neotarf (talk) 06:36, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect Neotarf makes a good point (though they seem to have retired from Wikipedia) about a complex relationship between mental health and group aggression. But when I checked through the 'what links here' list at this template, I didn't notice anything that looked like it might be the user mentioned above who is apparently recently deceased. Maybe I missed something, or would it not show if hatted, or is something else going on? Sighola2 (talk) 22:02, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:User warning-mentalhealthTemplate:User mental health – To remove the "user warning" from the template name, as the user warning ("uw-") series of templates are meant for editors to place a templated warning or notice regarding misconduct on another editor's talk page, while that usage is explicitly not allowed for this banner. Should we move the documentation to Template:User mental health/doc?[edit]

I don't see why not. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:00, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
