Book-class[edit]

Just a quick note that the book-class category for this project isn't populated by the template. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 09:43, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should work now. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 11:27, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Field part of the template[edit]

The field attribute seems to be underused, the page describing its use has been deleted- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Systems/Wikipedia_1.0/Fields

Could it be refactored, instead of being set to one field any field can be flagged as relevant. For example Cybernetics=yes, ControlTheory=yes. If no field is selected nothing shows.

For an example see,Template:WikiProject_United_States Jonpatterns (talk) 09:25, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

To make this happen, you'll either need to do it yourself or convince someone with the required expertise (not myself), that it is important functionality. ~KvnG 14:44, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to get peoples' opinion first, before investing the time. Also, I may be missing something - for example, there is a reason to only allow one field. Jonpatterns (talk) 17:16, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, to be useful you'd, at a minimum, need to get editors interested in classifying the articles. I personally think if this classification is adequately handled by the category system - and if not, we should be able to tweak categories to make it adequate. I'm not really in favor of a separate classification system that needs to be kept in sync with categories. It is also not clear to me how this classification is significantly useful to to editors working on the project. I am not familiar with the history of the feature but maybe there's a reason it has been deprecated. ~KvnG 17:49, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Where does it state its deprecated? If it is then, in my opinion, the template should not show the purple question mark and text, only show something if the field has been identified. Jonpatterns (talk) 08:32, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As far as the history of this template concerned, the field attribute has been added in 2009, and then about 2000 of the 2900 articles in the scope of the Wikiproject have been assessed. It never had much priority to complete this job, because there was so much more to do. -- Mdd (talk) 11:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
