Dr. Iddo Paldor is an Israeli neurosurgeon, who specializes in operations for resection and diagnosis of brain tumors, and in focal radiation to the central nervous system. He currently holds the position of deputy director of neurosurgery in the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, as director of the brain tumor and radiosurgery unit, as director of training..[1] and as secretary of the Israeli Neurosurgical Society.[2]

Biography[edit]

Iddo Paldor attended the school of medicine in the Hebrew university – Jerusalem, Israel (1999-2006). He spent an internship year in the Haim Sheba Medical Center (2006-2007), and was then accepted to neurosurgery residency in Hadassah Medical Center. He performed a full 6-year training program in Hadassah, and was board certified in Israel in 2013.

Dr. Paldor passed the residency exams Cum Laude, and then completed two fellowship programs in brain tumors: The first in Johns Hopkins Neurosurgery, under guidance from Dr. Henry Brem, and then a second period in the Royal Melbourne Hospital, under the supervision of Prof. Andrew Kaye and Prof. Kate Drummond.

Upon return to his native country of Israel (2016) he was appointed attending neurosurgeon and director of student teaching in the Neurosurgery department at Hadassah Medical Center. He founded both the brain tumor bank and the Neurosurgery Interest group (NSIG). The NSIG was focused on increasing the exposure to neurosurgery for students of medicine in the clinical years who are interested in surgical professions and neurosurgery specifically.

In 2019, Dr. Paldor was appointed vice chairman of the department of neurosurgery in the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Israel. He also served in Rambam as director of neurosurgical oncology, director of training and director of teaching. He continued to maintain the NSIG in Rambam, and was a mentor to many students and residents in Israel and abroad.

Upon completion of his time in Rambam, Dr. Paldor was appointed deputy director of neurosurgery in Shaare Zedek Medical Center, in Jerusalem Israel. He is also head of the brain tumor and radiosurgery unit, and director of training. He continues to manage a Neurosurgery interest group for students in the region.

Iddo Paldor is Married with 4 children, and resides in Jerusalem, Israel.

International achievements[edit]

In 2019 he was appointed as secretary general of the Asian and Australasian Society of Neurological Surgery (AASNS)[3]

In 2022 he was elected vice president of the AASNS. Later that year he served as the secretary of the Israeli Neurosurgical Society (INS)

In 2023 he served as second Vice president of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS).

Research and teaching[edit]

Iddo Paldor is the author of academic research papers. His research interests include brain tumors, function preservation during operations for brain tumor resection and others. He performs a wide variety of clinical and basic scientific research.

He has cooperated with many laboratories – in the Technion in Haifa, in the Hebrew University, in the life sciences institute and in the faculty of medicine. In clinical research he has been involved in retrospective and prospective research projects in various areas in neurosurgery and in brain tumors.

In student teaching and mentoring, Dr. Paldor has mentored students and residents, nationally and internationally. His teaching projects include the NSIG and development of different models for training of specific surgical capabilities expected of trainees and students in different levels of training.
