Before (top) and after (bottom) installation of the gadget, using three different sizes of section headers.

LeftEditLinks.js is a user script which moves the [edit] links for section headers so that they are close to the section headers. It was created after a discussion at the Village Pump about whether or not they should be moved for everyone, and regardless of the discussions' outcome it was determined that a gadget should be made in order to allow anyone who wanted the other version to use it.

Installation[edit]

You can most easily install LeftEditLinks as a gadget by going to Special:Preferences and selecting the "gadgets" menu. Just check the box for this gadget, click "save", purge your cache, and you're done.

Alternatively, you can add the following to your skin.js page.

importScript('User:Drilnoth/lefteditlinks.js');

This version is also used for testing, so before making any changes to the gadget version they will be visible to you if you use the direct importScript() function. However, there may be times where the script doesn't work for you if I am working on making changes to it. The gadget version usually makes the most sense.

Bugs[edit]

If you notice any bugs, including browser or skin compatibility issues, please feel free to post them here. When you do please indicate what web browser and skin you are using.

  • It doesn't left the edit button on the lead section of the article if you're using the gadget to add that. (latest vector skin, current Firefox 3.6.3)- Wolfkeeper 16:54, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
    • Same here. (latest vector skin, latest Safari 6.0.1) –– Anonymouse321 (talk) 07:07, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Minor annoyance: It changes the layout - for me, Section headers use 2 more pixels of vertical space with this enabled. (current Safari on current OS X; reproduced on current Firefox on current OS X)--Elvey (talk) 22:55, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Feature[edit]

  • For me, with this, edit links on pages with infoboxes and the like, appear with the section, instead of bunching up. Happy to load a screen shot if anyone want to know what I'm talking about. update: The bug this is a fix for is due to something with my extensive customization, so perhaps it's not affecting many people. Still, it's a feature! :) --Elvey (talk) 22:55, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
    That is the entire point of this script. OrangeDog (τ • ε) 11:17, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
