Warren Smith[edit]

Warren Smith (Born; January 4, 1989) is a South African known as the drummer for Celacanto, and music producer for Oz Records and W&C Productions

Early Life[edit]

Warren was born as Warren Smith on January,4, 1989 in Carletonville, Gauteng, South Africa. As a child, he moved to Pretoria, South Africa, where he grew up in a Christian family on a small farm. Before Warren attended Oos Moot High School, he found musical inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Deep Purple, and ACDC. Warren began playing Drums at the age of six and was in a teen band (Illtswick) with then best friends PJ Fourie, Gerhard Combrink, Roan van As and Franco van Heerden at 16.[5] He later took up guitar classes being inspired by band mates.

Career[edit]

Illtswick: 2005-2008[edit]

Warren played with Illtswick through his High school years where they performed numerous gigs and mostly played at house parties. The band cosisted of Punk Rock which was ispired by bands such as Green Day, Blink 182, Boxcar Racer, Bowling for Soup and Sum 41. The band broke up and parted ways in mid 2008

Jean Zenan and the JAK: 2009-2010[edit]

After High School Warren started studying to become a chef and studied at "Steyns Cullinary School" where he met up with head Chef Jean Zenan. Jean invited Warren to join the band and they started making music from the word go. They released the song "Miz Thunderstorm" which got them to play live on Radio 2000 in Johannesburg. They then cot an invitation to compete in the RBF (Radio Broadcast Facility) Challenge where they ended up in the Semi Finals. The band broke up right before the finals due to unforeseen circumstances.

Cival Society 2010-2011[edit]

Warren started the band Cival Society with Pj Smith where they wrote some small material for the next year.

Nothing much came from this at this stage and Pj then moved away to Orkney which left the project to a dead end.

Demoliesiemasjien 2011-2013[edit]

Late 2011 Warren joined up with Arend Erasmus, Phillip Venter, Kobe van Coller and Adriaan Wentzel, They then crated the band Demoliesiemasjien. They Released two singles "Verwerping van Verwagting" and "Verstandig Losbandig" which they recorded at RedRoom Records In Pretoria. They also released a music video of "Verwerping van Verwagting" In 2013 Adriaan Wentzel left the band and Cobe' van Coller was replaced by PJ Smith on vocals.

In 2013 they released another single "November" that was also recorded at RedRoom Records. In late 2013 Warren and Arend left the band and the band broke up completely.

Celacanto 2013-Present[edit]

Warren attended to his invitation for a audition at Celacanto and Celacanto offered to him the position as drummer where he joined up with Cesar Somoza and Jaime Perez.

In early 2014 Celacanto released their first Demo called. "En vivo y no extinto" (Alive and Non-Extinct). Warren showed and performed his strong beat and immaculate precision providing a truck load of rhythm rich in heavy performance. in 2015 Jaime Perez moved back to Miami, Florida which left Warren and Cesar back at square one.

In late 2016 Warren opened his own studio which he dreamed about since a little kid called Oz Records. In 2017 Celacanto recorded their new album "Los Techos Rojos e los Cuentos de la Vida" which was released 04 January 2018. This album was released mainly in Carracas, Venezuela where they had a good response and had radio play on 88.1 that was presented by DJ Jesus Rodriguez. At end of January 2018 Warren and Cesar started their own studio/producing company called "W&C Production. At end of February 2018 Celacanto started to work on their new album that is due to release in March 2017

Producer 2016 - Present[edit]

In early 2016 Warren started hes long last dream of becoming a producer and opening hes own studio. He opened Oz Records in which he partnered up with Martin Digovich and are currently active as a mobile studio. At en of January 2018 Warren opened hes record company with Cesar Somoza called W&C productions where they provide recording, Producing assistance, film and any source of media activities. Currently W&C Productions is going strong and is the official studio for the productions of Celacanto.

Personal life[edit]

Warren currently resides in Benoni, Gauteng with his wife, Chantelle, whom he married on December 11, 2016. Warren has been identified as an great producer and he says that he especially enjoys the work of Cesar Somoza. When asked about his hobbies, he replied: "I guess I have been pretty fortunate since I have turned what was a hobby into a living. Music pretty much consumes me. If I’m not writing, performing or listening I am probably trying to learn more about the music history and how it originated into todays music.
