So am I blocked forever or do I get a second chance to redo the page within the Wikipedia guidelines?

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Akiban Technologies, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.linkedin.com/company/akiban-technologies.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for spamming or advertising. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Decline reason:

We don't get to write about our own companies on Wikipedia. --jpgordon::==( o ) 19:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. Hello,

I am new to Wikipedia, and just created a wiki page about the company Akiban Technologies, www.akiban.com. The wiki page highlighted the companies goals in creating a new software, what the software does, and the past releases of the beta software, and the future release of version 1.0 (which is free to the public).

I was blocked by user Syrthiss for spamming/ advertising. I followed a very similar model to a similar company 'MySql', http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysql, and definitely would not consider what I wrote to be anything but facts about the company. I don't link to places to buy our software, or even mention prices. I would talk to Syrthiss directly over my talk, but I am not exactly sure how that works.

If you would let me know what parts of what I wrote are advertising/spamming, then I will happily edit or delete them. As I said I just want the community to be able to find Akiban Technologies company info on Wikipedia, not sell them anything.

My user name is AkibanTech, thanks in advance for your help.

Thank You,

Robert Riegel

It's clear that your only purpose at Wikipedia is to promote your company. We're not going to let you do that. There were more problems with your article than promotion, for example it was a copy of information found on the Linkedin web site which is a violation of copyright and expressly forbidden. -- Atama 20:59, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for responding. So since I did make a mistake, can I be unblocked and have a second chance to do the page within the guidelines, or am I blocked forever?

So I would like to change my username, and I submitted the username change and it was there for a few days, and then disappeared. I would like to change my username to...anything, I really don't care what it is as long as its within the guidelines. I understand that I am not to write about Akiban because it will be considered spamming or advertising. Please help.

So just to be clear, you want to participate on Wikipedia without writing about Akiban Technologies? If you're sure about that, then I'd consider unblocking you. Also, I believe the reason why your username change was declined was because you were blocked, and there's not much point in changing the username of a blocked editor since they won't be participating at Wikipedia anyway. But again, if you no longer wish to promote the company, then I don't see why you can't be blocked, and I'll help you request the name change as well. -- Atama 19:42, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HARAAH I'm glad to be moving forward on this. Yes I will not write about Akiban. I was thinking about the sn Select.Optimizer, which has to do with databases, and was available last time I checked.

Thanks for your help. You can also DELETE no.denormalization if you would like.

We generally don't delete accounts, for technical reasons, but don't worry about it. And also, while we don't allow people to create alternate accounts when blocked, I know you didn't know that it was disallowed and won't hold it against you. I'll unblock you now, and you remember how to request a username change, so you should do so right away. (And I think Select.Optimizer is fine, I just checked the history of the username change page, and sure enough your request was only rejected because you were blocked, that shouldn't be a problem this time.) -- Atama 20:55, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
