Snow words I've ever heard[edit]

Consensus reached[edit]

I have created the article Hyper/J, copied the contents of Hyperj to it -- that is why CorenSearchBot had accused the content duplication --, and then replaced the contents of Hyperj by a redirect to Hyper/J. The better action would have been for me to click on the "Rename" button of Hyperj and then rename it to Hyper/J.

Fortunately, the article creation was noticed by VG, whom suggested article deletion due to the fact that Hyper/J is a discontinued software unlikely to receive further coverage.

In the discussion about the article deletion proposal, my suggestion, merge with Subject-oriented programming and redirect, was accepted by consensus. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hyper/J for details.

The interesting part of this is that, hadn't I created the Hyper/J article to replace the former Hyperj article, the poor contents of the Hyperj article would likely still be floating around without being merged to Subject-oriented programming. The community editing process does cause content changes that would never have been predicted by any individual editor. The Chinese Language: Fact and Fantasy[edit]

This section was refactored to include all the discussion (about the article The Chinese Language: Fact and Fantasy) I had with User:ㄏㄨㄤㄉㄧ, a user indefinitely blocked for blatant personal attacks and sockpuppetry. His posts here are anonymous edits (IP shown below), since he as a registered user is indefinitely blocked.

The only refactoring I have done here was to turn former sections (created by that disruptive user on this page) into subsections of this section.

It seems that Chinese guy has a hidden political agenda, and intends to make up a "Rebuttal" section as a way to assign the Chinese language (and the writing system) the status of a "special language",

Portuguese personal infinitive[edit]

Hi Antonielly,

In the Differences between Spanish and Portuguese article, you wrote: There is a verbal conjugation named personal infinitive which exists in Portuguese but is absent in Spanish. It can always be replaced by the pronoun 'que' followed by the same verb in the imperfect subjunctive.

The personal infinitive seems to be a rather complex and confusing subject. I have a Portuguese grammar book that states in certain cases its use is obligatory. For example, É necessário termos paciência. Can this be replaced by the imperfect subjunctive as É necessário que tivéssemos paciência?

Yes, you could use either one, though esperásemos is less common than esperáramos. However, para isn't used after the preterite (pidió), only the imperfect (pedía). Perhaps the following section could be expanded:

Imperfect subjunctive versus pluperfect indicative[edit]

A class of false friends between the two languages is composed of the verb forms with endings containing -ra-, such as cantara, cantaras, cantáramos, and so on. Spanish has two forms for the imperfect subjunctive, one with endings in -se- and another with endings in -ra- (e.g. cantase, cantara; were I to sing), which are usually interchangeable. In Portuguese, only cantasse has this value; cantara is employed as a pluperfect indicative, i.e. the equivalent to Spanish había cantado (I had sung). Although there is a strong tendency to use a verb phrase instead in the spoken language, like in Spanish and English (tinha cantado), the simple tense is still frequent in literature.

Also, I think a Portuguese speaker wrote this section, and was being overly cautious when they said "are usually interchangeable." I can't think of an example where the Spanish imperfect subjunctive -ra-/-se- is not interchangeable. If no one objects, I'll remove the word "usually."

Hi there, I saw you disagreed with my redirection, which is fine. I did look over this before I redirected, and the only content I can see that's not already in Comment (computer programming) is the mention of word processors having an annotation feature. I also didn't think that was appropriate in a merged article -it might be appropriate to mention it in Word processor, but it's not quite the same thing as the rest of the material. I don't see that we need to merge anything, so I don't see much use in waiting, but I'll hold off to let you look for merge-worthy content if you wish. I have finished the merge process. You are right, there weren't much to transfer (basically only the comment about comments being annotations), since some time ago I had already transferred the "See also" section, the external links, and the categories.
