@Corkythehornetfan: The reason why I changed the URL for the Northern Iowa Panthers at Module:College color/data is because the current URL comes straight from the UNI Panthers' athletic website. Thanks for the new link - looks like you've found contradicting sources. The team says one thing, the league says something slightly different. I think the team is the slightly better source here, as stewards of their own identity, but didn't want to make the change without talking first. What do you think - team or league? @SixFourThree: Why not both? The way I see it, let's leave the references in the infobox alone, for now. I don't believe that the Titans are going to drastically change their club colors, so let's leave both URL references in the infobox. The club's media guide and the reference from the National Football League (NFL)'s Record and Fact Book are not substantially that different. I don't have a problem with including both references, it's just that they list different color names and in different orders. I think the team's designations should receive more weight than the league's. But you raise a good point; new uniforms are coming and with them possibly new colors. When those are unveiled, and the 2018 media guides and released, we'll see if there is still a conflict. If so, which one do you think should be favored? Non-free images without rationale

I noticed that you had added File:NBA Playoffs logo new.png to 2018 NBA Playoffs. I had to remove the image because there is no fair use rationale on the file description page for use on "2018 NBA Playoffs". Even though anyone could add a rationale, I still would not add the file even with the second rationale because I believe it would fail WP:NFCC#3a, which says that "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information", since the same logo will likely be used again and again at least for the next several years. Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

File uploading

File:Anaheim Ducks wordmark logo.png is not a non-free file. It cannot be non-free because it is just letters. Files like this should be uploaded on Wikimedia Commons as they are public domain material. Otherwise uploading it as non-free would put the file in violations of WP:NFCC#8 as non-free files can only be used in one article. Corky 01:58, 7 May 2018 (UTC)

Recent NBA colors updates

Hey. I saw that you updated several colors for old teams as can be seen here. I would like to know where to locate these logos in the NBA website? @Sabbatino: Here's how I did that. I went to stats.nba.com/scores I then clicked on the calendar date and selected a random date to find a day when an old NBA team played a game. For example, to find out the HTML color codes for the San Diego Clippers, I clicked on the calendar date for March 30, 1984 (the URL for that game is found here). I then right-clicked on the logo and selected "Open image in new tab" (sic) in Google Chrome. That led me to this URL. Once there, I right-clicked on a color and selected "Inspect". The HTML color code is found under the "path fill" line for each specific color. I hope this helps. @Sabbatino: OK, I understand. All I can tell you is that not all historical NBA team logos are available at Stats.NBA.com. All I did was check for a random date in the calendar, and then go from there. I think the best advice I can give is to use this URL as an example template, figure out which year a historical team played, and its three-letter abbreviation code. The example URL I listed above is for the 1995–96 Seattle SuperSonics season. I believe that you just have to know the three-letter abbreviation code and the year a specific team played to find the logo in question. Also, I would use Google Image search and type "(specific historical team) logo nba.com" in the search box. That's what I have also done. Lightning–Panthers rivalry

Firstly, I wanted to thank you for all your improvements to the page Governor's Cup (Florida). However I did want to ask about the shade of blue you are using for the Lightning in results table. As an avid TBL fan that has attended many games, I can categorically say that the shade of blue currently in their uniform is not anything close to the navy blue you switched to in the table. It's actually much closer to a royal blue, but a bit darker/richer than that. I understand that you might be going by a standard set elsewhere by another editor, but even with that in mind it doesn't really meet the eye-test. For my part, I don't plan on switching it on you, b/c that would be the pettiest of edit wars to get into. I'm just asking that you revisit the color choice. @Creativewill: The only reason why I used  #00205B  is because I found a URL web page from NHL.com that uses that specific HTML color code. The URL is found here (right-click on the headline text and select 'Inspect' in Google Chrome). If you can find a better NHL.com URL that specifies the exact HTML color code the Lightning use, then be my guest and feel free to update all relevant templates and the main Lightning article. NFL Color Template Updates

Hey, I'm currently in the process of writing a module to replace all the individual color templates. I dumped the existing templates into a data file at Module:Gridiron color/data, but I want to make sure that the data file doesn't get out of sync with the existing templates between now and when the module goes live. When you update the existing templates, could you update that file as well?

Each team is listed as an array of the format ["team name"] = {"primary color", "secondary color", "tertiary color", "alternative primary", "alternative secondary"}. Alternative names are indicated using ["team alternative name"] = "team name" Years are listed using XXXXthruXXXX notation, and the module will take care of translating both the |year= parameter as well as the the deprecated XXthruXX notation. All colors are listed as hex-formatted colors with the # sign, as the module will take care of the formatting currently done for the various subtemplates (i.e. adding "background:" or "color:" or "/**/").

Thanks for your attempts to improve Wikipedia. I'm not sure why you're adjusting infobox spacing, but that's a different issue. Yet you had no problem a year ago. I realize the url was outdated, but it is pretty evident that they did not change. There was no official url for when we changed the colors a year ago - we just a PMS number that the media guides use (and still use if you look on the website). I've updated the url to this. Boston Celtics' colors

What are your reasons for changing the Celtics' colors? That NBA.com source only mentions that those colors are part of the new "City Edition" uniform and does not say anything about the changing of team's color scheme. This and this show more colors than you imply on listing. My reasons for changing were mainly because of the NBA.com article that referenced the Boston Celtics' new City Edition Nike jersey, but I have now self-reverted the colors in the infobox of the Boston Celtics article back to where they were, per this edit diff. Please do not remove the state from the team's city as you did in the New York Rangers' and New York Islanders' infoboxes and the the NHL's page. This is the standard for NHL and NBA pages. IMO, it's too complicated to list the boroughs in the |location= field, unless there's apparently a specific consensus that has been reached by all editors involved. Should we poll other editors to gain a consensus for the |location= field in the infobox for the New York Islanders article as well? There is no need to apologize or write lengthy messages justifying your actions when there is nothing controversial about it. Moving on to the Islanders' question, the difference between the Nets and Islanders in this instance is that the infoboxes used for NBA and NHL pages are different and they have different parameters |location= for the NBA and |city= for the NHL. I remember asking at WT:NHL or the Islanders' talk page about it and editors were in favor of listing "New York City, New York" for the Islanders since Brooklyn is not a city and the parameter at ice hockey's infobox is for city. Los Angeles Chargers' colors

The Los Angeles Chargers did indeed change their PrimaryStyle from navy blue to powder blue for the upcoming 2019 season. However, I think that the AltPrimaryStyle should be a navy blue background (with white text), instead of a gold background (with navy text). Per {{cite news}}, we typically do not specify |publisher= when it closely duplicates the work's name e.g. The New York Times Company for The New York Times. Wake Forest

Read the reference before you revert. It shows  #CEB888  as its new color. Before it listed the darker gold, however they didn’t change the picture for it. I know what I’m doing. Raiders Colors

Just because the Raiders relocated to Las Vegas does not mean that the primary color listed first should be black. Now, I don't want to engage in an edit-war with you over this, but please stop changing the primary color order for the colors in the infobox of the Las Vegas Raiders article. The situation with the Raiders' colors is tricky. They list "silver and black", but I have seen reports from Al Davis itself that the team's colors are "black and silver". My justification for making this change is this: if we allow color text in the title for one NFL team, then we can and should allow it for all other teams who use a color such as aqua or orange. The color codes are WP:CONTRAST compliant, as I have ensured they will be. My sources for the Broncos' use of orange as its predominant color is from the team itself, which can be found at DenverBroncos.com and also the club's 2019 media guide. Los Angeles Chargers navy blue color

Hey there, just wanted to let you know it appears the Chargers have fully let go of navy blue as their color scheme. In Module:Gridiron color/data, it should be removed anywhere from the current scheme in the table. @GalaxyFighter55: I would change it to powder blue, except for the fact that powder blue text on a yellow background fails WP:CONTRAST guidelines, so that's why we had been using navy blue as the secondary text color code for the Los Angeles Chargers at Module:Gridiron color/data. I'll go ahead and change the text color code to black for now, in order to meet WP:CONTRAST guidelines regarding accessibility for color-blind readers. @Eagles247: I made these changes because it was my impression that Wikipedia was using white-colored text on a colored background. I'm sorry. I should have tried to reach a consensus first before making any changes. However, my larger point remains: if we are requiring black text for the Miami Dolphins' & Los Angeles Chargers' background colors, then surely we should discuss changing the primary color for the Denver Broncos from  navy blue  to  orange  over at WT:NFL? There is no requirement to have white text over a colored background on Wikipedia, but it is preferred that either black or white is used. I would be okay with changing with the Broncos colors to your proposed scheme (and there doesn't appear to be any resistance from WP:NFL per the discussion you started last month), but as I stated at #Broncos colors, you previously changed the Broncos colors back and forth 10 times over the span of three months, and I do not want you changing your mind again in a week or two. If this is the scheme you want, this is it, unless something significant changes regarding policy, a discussion, or the Broncos changing their colors in real life. If you believe it is more important to have the Broncos' primary color be the background color than to have all three of their main colors in the template in some fashion, you may make the change and leave a note in the WT:NFL section that you have made this change. I'm going to ask Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Accessibility if "brightness difference" should be considered as a component of WP:CONTRAST. As I explained here, the contrast checker website you cited for the Dolphins colors only "failed" black font because its "brightness difference" was not high enough. White font failed the contrast ratio entirely, but passed the "brightness difference", which is why the website said white font "sort of" meets WCAG, but I do not see anything at WP:ACCESSIBILITY about brightness being a factor here. @Sabbatino: OK, I'll try to address these questions one by one. First, my reasoning in changing the wording from "team" to "club" is that I didn't want to use the same noun repeatedly to describe the subject in question. It has something to do with the Associated Press (AP) style book. Second, I repeatedly changed the colors for the Brooklyn Nets because I wanted to visually show that the team's colors are black and white, and I wanted the colors in the template to reflect the team's actual colors (titlestyle being black background w/white text, basestyle being white background, black text, black border). I reverted it back to where it was because apparently, the WP:CONSENSUS is to have black background w/white text for both the titlestyle and basestyle. Do these explanations help? The team/club explanation makes some sense. As for the colors – I am in favor of titlestyle being black/white and basestyle being white/black. But my main concern, which I should have addressed in my initial post, is the constant self-reverting done by yourself (this also includes NFL colors). Please stick to one coloring pattern and stop playing with the "Undo" button. If you are in doubt and know that you are going to revert it the next day then ask in the appropriate projects. @Fma12: I'm fine. How are you? I would be more than glad to help you clear the point about File:Tampabay buccaneers unif20.png. The main problem with that file is the logo on the helmet. The logo that's currently depicted on the helmet is the same logo the Tampa Bay Buccaneers used from 1997–2013. The Buccaneers currently use this logo from NFL.com as their primary logo. NFL Navbox color schemes

Hello. Yesterday and earlier this week I changed the style of several NFL navboxes. I used 'Gridiron alt primary style' in the |basestyle= and |abovestyle= cells because it gave a nice looking contrast to NFLPrimaryStyle in the |titlestyle= bar. Now all of sudden those two cells have the same style in many of the navboxes. See Template:CardinalsFirstPick and even Template:New York Jets which I never touched. Yesterday and several days before I believe, those lower cells were white with team primary colored text. All Cardinals, Jets and Colts navboxes did the same thing. Actually, now that I mention it, I reverted the wiki-code formatting for the team color codes for the teams mentioned earlier so that the background color in the |basestyle= is now white with team colored text. I did this so as to provide a nice contrast between the primary color & white text in the background of the |titlestyle= & the white background & primary team color in the |basestyle=. It does look better this way. I also promise not to tinker with or change it back, unless the teams' themselves change their own color codes in the future. I see that you have been flip-flopping on colors, such as with the Brooklyn Nets at Module:Sports color/basketball. I'm not here to argue for one color scheme vs. another. However, I suggest that your edit summary includes a rationale—preferably objective—on why you are changing the color. Then others will know the reason for the change. @Bagumba: Yes, all of the above is correct. I understand and agree with your suggestion. From now on, my edit summaries will further explain my preferably objective rationale. The only reason why I had been tinkering with changing the team color code formatting at Module:Gridiron color/data, Module:Sports color/baseball, and Module:Sports color/basketball was because I was trying to design the templates so that the background color for the |titlestyle= contrasted with the background color for the |basestyle=. Having said that, team colored text on a white background is not necessarily easy to see or read in a template, unless a |border= is present also. You're right, though. @Cabayi: The reason why I have tried to insert corporate color code formatting in these templates was because I wanted to demonstrate that each corporate company had official branding colors, and I tried to do the best I could to make sure that the corporate color code formatting complied with our WP:CONTRAST guidelines. Hindsight is 20/20, so I can clearly see now that I was the only editor who wanted to make these changes, which apparently went against WP:MOS or WP:ACCESSIBILITY. My question is this: what would you want me to leave in the edit summaries? (talk page stalker) I know you asked Cabayi and not me but ... a useful edit summary for those edits might be something like "changed colors to match corporate brand colors". As to why not, IMO it's not that we can't use the "official" colors, it's about how we use them, or more specifically, where. It's very difficult to do white or black text on "official" background colors and comply with WP:CONTRAST. Most official colors don't make good background colors for text. However, there are other ways to incorporate official colors in the templates, while still complying with accessibility guidelines. I don't remember which sport -- I thought it was NFL football but maybe it was association football - but I distinctly remember this coming up recently (2020) for some group of team templates, and some compromise was struck where the team colors were shown on the templates but in a way that complied with accessibility guidelines. Whatever they did is probably an example to follow. Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm going off memory, maybe if you search or ask around you will find the compromise I'm thinking of. I'd be a little more blunt than Levivich - it's because we're creating a Wikipedia article about the company, not a piece of promotional material put out by the company. What looks good 15cm large on the side of a truck or over a shop door doesn't necessarily look anywhere near good at 15 pixels large on a screen. MOS: over-rides the corporate style guide every time. @Sabbatino: Actually, I disagree. For example, Template:United States men's national basketball team uses the color codes derived from Module:Sports color/basketball. Did you even see the finished product of your edits? For the footer, "ARZ" was in red on every roster template, half of the teams shown were in black, and half were in white. Those colors need to be the same for every team on an individual roster template, otherwise it looks like a complete mess. When I thought I had entered in the wiki-code formatting properly, it seemed to mess up the wiki-code formatting for the entire module (as in, it seemed to remove the documentation). I should have tested my proposed edits first over at Module:College color/data/sandbox. That's on me. I will do better. By the way, I would like to ask if there is any way you would be so kind as to please help me out with entering in the wiki-code formatting for the entries for the Orange Bowl & Sugar Bowl over at Module:College color/data? @Jgwilliams873: OK, so I found that maroon color for the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies from MLB.com. From there, I scrolled down the webpage until I found the club's logo for the year 1980. In Microsoft Edge Chromium edition, I then right-clicked on the Phillies' maroon "P" logo and selected "Open image in new tab". That took me to this page from MLB.com. I then clicked on the maroon background color and selected "Inspect". That's what told me that the exact correct color shade for Phillies' maroon is  #6F263D . The best page to find old archived Major League Baseball (MLB) team logos that I have personally found is at MLB.com/Postseason/History/World-Series. "Cleveland" Charge

Just an FYI, the team you moved as the Cleveland Charge is not yet confirmed by any sources, including the one you are citing. In fact, that cite is why it was named what it was (referred to by the Cavs as Charge NBA G League franchise in the first sentence with Further details on the team name, logos and merchandise information will be announced in the near future in the last paragraph). The team is still using "Charge NBA G League team" the most recent press release. Per WP:NAMECHANGES, WP:COMMONNAME, and WP:OFFICIALNAME, the name you moved it from fit the relevant guidelines more accurately. @Yosemiter: The only reason why I put "Cleveland" in the name as the club's geographic identifier was to ensure that the club's colors showed up in the header of the article. I believe it was an honest mistake on my part. I had apparently mistakenly assumed that because they were planning on playing home games in Cleveland that Cleveland was the club's geographic identifier. I've fixed it now. The article is now at Charge (NBA G League franchise). I've also updated the entry for this club over at Module:Sports color/basketball. I'm sorry. Uniforms update

Hi, Charlesaaronthompson, how 're you doing? Effectively I bought a new computer, but I've had some problems of software and hardware compatiblities that made me impossible to edit and/or update the uniforms. The point is, all my uniforms had been created with CorelDraw v13 (that runs perfectly on Win 7, but my new PC has Win 10 installed); Unfortunately this version of CD does not run on Win 10 so I had to search another computer to convert my Corel files to previous versions that allow me to edit them on my new PC.

I'm working hard on it so I think it could be solved before the weekend. My aim is to have all ready to edit them and even create new uniforms on my PC. Please, be patient while I try to solve it ASAP. Thanks for your support and confidence! Fma12 (talk) 22:06, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Problems with edit at Template:Detroit Lions general manager navbox

Hello. Can you please review this edit of yours? A few issues I noticed:

• You added Dutch Clark to the template. This appears to be in conflict with his article that states he was the Lions quarterback in 1936 and a player-coach for the Lions in 1937 and 1938. No mention of GM unless I'm missing something. What is your source for the inclusions of both Clark and Graham Smith as GMs?

• Your entries for both Dutch Clark (1936–1938} and Graham Smith (1941–1942} contain curly brackets } at the end instead of the round ). I assume this was a typo / unintentional.

• You added "Formerly the Portsmouth Spartans (1930–1933)" to the above bar. I had removed that last year with the rationale that all the GMs in the navbox are from after the team became the Detroit Lions (true even with your additions).

@DB1729: My source for adding Dutch Clark & Graham Smith to the list of Detroit Lions general managers comes from Pro-Football-Reference.com, which is found here. He was also the Lions' head coach in 1937 & 1938, per Pro-Football-Reference.com & the 2021 Detroit Lions Media Guide. Yes, the entries that added curly brackets were typos and unintentional. Hopefully, you've fixed those. Furthermore, I restored the "Formerly the Portsmouth Spartans (1930–1933)" to the above bar because that is the past history of the club. We should count the history of the Portsmouth Spartans as part of the history of the Detroit Lions, because the Lions organization and the NFL both recognize the Portsmouth team as part of the history of the Lions, per the Lions' 2021 media guide I linked to earlier & also the 2021 Official NFL Record & Fact Book. We include the "Formerly the Portsmouth Spartans (1930–1933)" above bar in Template:Detroit Lions coach navbox. Why can't we recognize it here? My rationale for that is that the team in Portsmouth could not have existed without front office executives making player decisions back from 1930–1933, much like they do today. Fair enough. Thanks for the explanations. I have fixed the typos. Last year I moved the prior names on all the NFL teams navboxes out of the top title bar and into the 'above' bar. Except for on this particular template I simply removed the former name entirely per the rationale stated above, and as part of the overall effort to clean up the title bars. I can't remember if removing the mention entirely was solely my idea or suggested from another editor. In any case, I am happy with the current state of the navbox.

In light of the source you provided, seems changes to at least the Dutch Clark article are now in order. I may take care of that tomorrow.

I have added some points on Dutch Clark's administrative career to his page.[4] Final note: While doing so, I noticed the source titles Detroit Lions Executives & Owners and Cleveland/LA/St. Louis Rams Executives & Owners. Those Pro-Football-Reference.com titles are consistent with and support my argument that Portsmouth Spartans should not be mentioned in navboxes that contain no elements from that era. Arizona Coyotes colors

I should remind you that WP:BRD quite clearly says not to re-insert content if you are reverted and start a discussion. The color codes for the Arizona Coyotes that I listed come from the logo in the Coyotes official website (link to logo), while you insist on using the color codes from records.nhl.com (logo from there). The same applies to the Philadelphia Flyers (which you changed also) and every other active NHL team. I clearly understand how annoying and frustrating it is to you. I get it. I have finally decided to base the colors off the team's Reproduction and Usage Guideline Sheet found at MediaCentral.NBA.com. However, let me explain why I've made the same changes repeatedly though: my whole rationale, and there just isn't enough characters to explain it in the edit summary at Module:Sports color/basketball, is that I'm trying to find a definitive source from NBA.com that clearly spells out what the team colors for the Boston Celtics are. I finally ended up having to use the archived URL source reference from NBA.com about the team's logo history (found here). The reason why I had been continually changing it repeatedly is because all of the URL sources I find from Celtics.com say that their colors are green and white. However, I feel like the MediaCentral.NBA.com URL source reference should take precedence. Do you agree? Anyway, I won't just keep repeatedly changing it back and forth, and I promise to leave it alone for now. I also promise to do better. However, please give me an opportunity to change and to demonstrate that I plan to leave the color codes alone over at Module:Sports color/basketball. The other URL source reference I had previously changed to that stated green and white for the Boston Celtics was when the team announced Vistaprint as its' jersey sponsor patch partner. That URL is found here. It's only to be used in the infobox of the Celtics' article to state that the team's main corporate sponsor for its jerseys is Vistaprint, but it does state: "Today, Vistaprint, the marketing and design partner to millions of small businesses, and the 17-time NBA World Champion Boston Celtics announced a multi-year partnership in which Vistaprint becomes the Exclusive Marketing and Design Partner of the Boston Celtics. As part of the partnership, the Vistaprint logo will appear in Celtics signature team colors on the front left shoulder of the Celtics’ game jerseys beginning with the 2020-21 season." It doesn't explicitly state "green and white" as the team colors, but is it just me that draws that conclusion, or is this just WP:OR? Also, yes, I do understand that the NBA Media Central reference should take precedence unless otherwise spelled out explicitly by a specific team's press release. I do know that very well. I just now saw that you have the most unthinkably extensive history of bad decisions and behavior, and corrective action taken against you, about editing templates. So I have to just echo that here for the record. You added one particular sports facility to the template for the entire top-level metropolitan area which already has "sports". It doesn't get a lot more obvious how inappropriate this idea was, for anybody ever, even for a new user's first edit. Ok I can dig that but I've already blanketed your vicinity with WP:TRIVIA WP:FANCRUFT, and there's the essential WP:OR WP:RS. I always review my work, often obsessively! Every single day, I check my edit history for quality over quantity. That's my personal law. I aim for each edit to be essential and worthy of archiving and shooting into space for the aliens to read and make first contact. Or at least that nobody would ever need to think of reverting it. I re-read many of my edits 10 times each, sometimes for weeks of my history. This is after I've made bazillions of edits and entirely new articles since at least 2013. Maybe you can find a way to join a Wikiproject or task force to provide technical support to existing efforts, because you have some sweet technical chops.
