Cigars[edit]

Hi Dan.

I got a stack of Cigar Aficionado off of eBay and have been toodling around kicking in info into various articles as it appears. A few things for you to mull over:

  • I'd advocate the use of (cigar brand) rather than (cigar) as a qualifier for names that need to be disambiguated. Thus Bolivar (cigar brand) not Bolivar (cigar). I think you are on board with this convention already, but I just wanted to check in.
  • It would be very beneficial if you could add in-line footnotes to back up your work. This will help keep people from befuddling the works down the road. I will put one down here so that you can see the style.[1] Then, for every additional use of the same source, all you need is the following.[1]

Footnotes[edit]

  1. ^ a b Anwer Bati, The Cigar Companion: The Connoisseur's Guide. Third Edition. Philadelphia and London: Running Press, 1997; pg. 4.

I guess that's pretty much it for the moment. I'm not sure that formal "Cigar Group" status is going to be approved, seems to be bogged down at the moment, but the key thing is really the content anyway, eh? You're doing geat work, by the way! —Tim Carrite (talk) 17:10, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I remember the other thing I was going to mention. There are two more Categories of which you should be aware: Category:Cigars and Category:Cigar brands. These should both be added to the bottom of every cigar brand article, and the former added to articles about cigar components and so forth, such as my new one on cigar band. Hi Tim,

First of all - thank you for you kind words and your efforts regarding one of my favorite hobbies. It's a pleasure collaborating with a fellow Aficionado...

  • I'm definitely on board with the (cigar brand) convention. No problems there.
  • I'll add in-line footnotes, relying on a couple of professional sources (such as books, researches, etc.) from now on. I've taken note about the ease of use of repeating footnotes.
  • I'm watching those category pages for some time, so I'll make sure all cigar related pages come under those categories when needed.

I hope our little group will come to life, but as you've mentioned - the cigars are the heart of it.

Thanks again and good luck to us. Dan Levy (talk) 16:40, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
