I do have a reference but I am reluctant to put it up even though it is a prerequisite for inclusion in Wikipedia because it contains his personal information i.e. home address and telephone number and I don't want to cause an invasion of privacy. Hello YborCityJohn Please pay attention to notability. While he may be a notable person, every place he lived is not notable. Also, once a person is notable for a certain city, it is not lost because they move. Where a person is born and a city where they are active enough in a community to be mentioned in the newspaper can be notable. If you want to promote the biography of a person, look to what they did and find relevant articles, don't try to track down where they happen to live. Thomas Fire Fatality Numbers

Hi. I got a notification that you reverted my edits to the articles, Thomas Fire and List of California wildfires. I do not consider the deaths caused by the Montecito mudslides as fatalities under the Thomas Fire. Even though the mudslides and the fire have a connection, the mudslides is a different event and the deaths caused by the mudslides weren't caused by the fire itself. In total, the fatalities for the fire is 2, not 23.

I am not saying that there should not be a section that is about the mudslides in the Thomas Fire article; I actually do think that it's important. But, I wouldn't include the fatalities caused by the mudslides into the fatalities section of the template at the beginning of the Thomas Fire article and the templates in the “List of California Wildfires” article.

You placed a {{Citation style}} on Umoja Village. I think that is the wrong template. The existing references seem to have a consistent style. I think that the proper templates that you should use are the {{Unreferenced section}} & {{Citation needed}} templates instead.

Hi,

I implore you to read the "Techequity" website. It clearly advocates for changing the California tax code. Since this lady leads that organization, I'm not sure why the claim she is a political operative needs a reference. If an organization seeks changes to the tax code, that makes it a political organization, and that makes Ms. Bracy a political operative!

Please point out where my reasoning is faulty. I am trying to improve articles in this space, and I thought this article masqueraded this organization and person as "technologists" seeking to "open technology". Uh, no. It's 100% political/lobbying.

@DalBhatRotiShak: Thanks for reaching out. All the Ventura Co. City articles could use work on history, IMHO. If I had more time, I would work on those and incorporate the places on the Ventura City and County Designated Landmarks into the city articles besides improving the articles on each landmark if I had more time. Edits need a reliable reference so many of the existing references can be used to expand or used on another city that is also mentioned. There are several good history books on county history at the library that could be used. I have to admit, I am a avid consumer of news so I am triggered to improve an article, not by the headline news but by the background the article provides. You are right about the lead not adequately summarizing the article, thank you for pointing that out!!! I will add a summary of the many causes in the Causes section, and add some of CA's legislative responses to the last paragraph in the lead. And move the large paragraph talking about the prices in different markets to farther down in the article.

@Avatar317:, I appreciate all the editing you have done for the article. The problem seems to be that the article was originally written like an essay stating a point of view at a particular time. It obviously needs to be an on-going article that is continually updated as the state struggles with the problem. It took decades for the problem to get this bad and so it won't be easy. I've done some myself, including on the Thomas fire and created the Tuqan Man article. The latter burial was found on San Miguel Island, but that was the western part of Santa Rosae Island, of which Anacapa is the easternmost remaining relic. I lost an acquaintance on the AK flight. Thanks also for reverting most of the vandalism on the Homestead article. That had almost certainly been done by a COI editor, as the IP address locates to there. Hi, Fettlemap, thanks for your efforts cleaning up the spelling of Cooper Donuts (or Do-nuts) at Drag Queen, Stonewall riots and various other articles after the name change at the article. I had to revert the name change at the article because it was an undiscussed, controversial move, so it's back to the old name again, pending discussion to gain consensus for the change. There's no need to undo any of your clean-up changes, they're all fine for now, but I'd hold off making any new ones. While this a significant honor within the Catholic Church, the Wikipedia article will not change much. For the name change, guidance on official names is relevant. Unless the name becomes commonly used, the title of the article and the name in the first (lead) paragraph will not change. I updated the lead after finding the article but did not have a chance to add the citation. I would suggest adding an explanation to the end of the history section along with the citation. There are two articles that are related but distinct. They are distinguished with a hat note (small print before the lead). Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano is the present-day parish and church completed in 1986. Mission San Juan Capistrano is the former Spanish mission founded in 1776 currently used as a chapel and museum. Del Mar, California revert of Bill Gates purchase

It takes about 15 seconds to confirm that there are reasonably credible reports to support the claim of Bill Gates purchase of a home in north Del Mar. So rather than revert the edit, wouldn't it be better to take those 15 seconds to establish that the claim is seemingly plausible, and if you don't want to be bothered actually validating the citation and adding it (which is understandable), just add a citation needed tag, assuming the real issue is the lack of a citation. Previously, under similar circumstances (and I'm not pointing any fingers), I will identify a source and add the citation, only to have the editor who objected to the lack of a citation raise some other objection that has nothing to do with the citation I provided, which should be obvious results in a significantly annoying waste of time. That's interesting. According to the documentation for OneClickArchiver it picks up the settings from the MiszaBot template. So it should have worked, but it didn't. Do you feel up to fixing this yourself or would you like me to do it? It's just a matter of moving the content of the "undefined" archive into the appropriate place in the archive file number 1, or if it was me doing it, I'd probably just move it to archive number 2, hopefully without leaving a redirect behind. — jmcgnh^{(talk) (contribs)} 05:43, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I asked for this page to be deleted a few days ago, but my friend has said he would like to view the page again. I had copied and pasted the text into a Word document as a sort of archive, however I now realise I didn't push save. Now we both want to see the page but I can't access it now. I put it on this page as it is technically an article for creation. Hi Fettlemap,

I really dislike seeing those "redirected" captions when you click on a place link, and also that people unnecessarily add the state to a major city link (e.g. Dallas, New Orleans, San Antonio, St. Louis). Often the context doesn't need the state to be named. Since you apparently have a different approach than mine, what do you think of leaving Missouri out, for those Illinois places with St. Louis links for which you reverted my edits?

Done. No worries. Lake Piru is even more distant from the river, yet both drain into the river; so when one considers runoff from things like sewage spills or agricultural pesticide drainage, the drainage divide becomes significant from the Los Angeles River to the south. Title of article to be plural "Genocides" not "Genocide"

User:Fettlemap There were a series of genocides of different indigenous nations over centuries, not a single genocide. Thus the article should be named Genocides of indigenous peoples (plural). Suppose for example that in Asia there were a number of genocides. We would not call it genocide of Asian people. The genocides took place in different centuries, to different indigenous groups or nations, in different parts of the world. There is no single Asia. There is no single 'indigenous peoples'. Familiar enough to know that a magazine is a print work or facsimile with a linear organization that can be referenced by page number, in contrast to a web site such as Pitchfork (website) in which even individual articles are not usually paginated and which can not be referenced with a linear designator such as a page number. Guidance

I see where you used the undo function to remove my edit on Tallassee, Alabama with the comment "The article is about the city, not individuals lacking notability." I am not an experienced user, so I will trust your judgement over mine on this. I must admit to some confusion about the situation, though, and I would love some guidance.

The edit was in a section specifically about politics in an area talking about this individual's accomplishments as mayor. He may not be a nationally notable person, but he is notable enough in the city to already be mentioned in this section. He is even displayed in the existing picture in this section.

You also state, "Wikipedia is not a newspaper, this has nothing to do with the official duties of the mayor," but this entire section has nothing to do with the official duties of the mayor. It is a section dedicated to the political history of the city that already mentions the current mayor's accomplishments.

I have no desire to vandalize any pages, so I will not be making any more changes to the page unless I receive guidance. I just genuinely do not understand how it is not relevant to the given section. Please advise. Tpentecost (talk) 01:22, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Tpentecost, this section of Tallassee is an excellent example of poorly edited section. As you can see, the section has been flagged for not having any references. This is a warning to readers not to trust this information until it has been improved. In this case, there may be three sentences worth keeping and the rest could be deleted. Antioch CA

The edit I made was not only based on my 37 years in this town, by with research from the Antioch Historical Society. A group is trying to tarnish Antioch to support their political agenda. Calling Antioch a Sundown Town based on a single inaccurate article, that was repeated by the current mayor, is wrong and libelous. The fire in question was city wide and although the Chinese section of town was burned, other homes and businesses were burned down as well. The only ordinate in effect at this time was over the opium trade in the area, and prostitution was also an issue. Have you looked at Calif Governor John Biger and his Chinese policies? The County of Contra Costa controlled the Antioch area before it was incorporated, and they also had policies against Chinese land ownership and other rules. I’m waiting for a report from the Antioch Historical Society then I’ll be sharing that with you shortly. Until then, this Wikipedia page needs to be edited by you. @BCD1824:; I am sure the article can be improved. The lead is a summary of the article and that definitely needs improvement; for one, it is too short. You can't use just personal experience to edit Wikipedia but your local knowledge can help find and interpret reliable sources. Please look at some of the resources in the Welcome on your talk page. When you are ready, go ahead and edit by using and citing reliable sources. If you want to discuss anything, start a discussion on the talk page of the article so other editors can join in. It may be challenging but you are not wasting your time. We are not on opposite sides as I agree that the sentence can be improved or drastically changed. That one edit] was just not an improvement. Opinion Wanted for Uinta Basin Rail

Fettlemap, I see you're taking an interesting in the article Uinta Basin Rail. I by no means was one of the original editors of this article, but took an interest in it and decided to take it to GAC, which it eventually has. There are two facts that I think are kinda neat that are not currently in the article. I have resisted adding them, because while they are cool to me, I'm not sure they are relevant in the big picture (which is why I'm asking you for a 2nd opinion). Another factor is that I'm concerned the article already dedicates a lot of space to discussing the Craig alternative, especially given it was eliminated (though to be fair it was still being actively considered when the article was first nominated for GAC. That was a post-GAC nomination development to the story) So here goes:

The article briefly touches that once Rio Grand Pacific became the project lead, they considered 29 routes, 26 from the UDOT study and 3 routes that were surveyed over 100 years ago. They gave serious consideration to two of these 100 year old surveys. An alternative they called the Aventiquin Canyon option was based on the line surveyed by the Denver and Rio Grande Western in the 1910s. It remained in the running until I believe the list was culled down to 8. The Craig alternative is a modified version of the Denver and Salt Lake's route from the East, surveyed in 1902. This is implied but not explicitly stated. (the modification was to take advantage of two sets of railroad track that exist today, but did not exist in 1902, the Deseret Power Railway mentioned in the article and a spur to a coal mine southwest of Craig) As stated in the article the Craig alternative was active until the list was cut from 4 to 3. The D&SL line from the west was called the Hobble Creek alternative, but was quickly eliminated, not even seriously considered. Hobble Creek canyon today is partly preserved, part used for municipal water by various cities near Provo, has a golf course in a wide spot of the canyon, and part has million dollar homes built throughout. For those reasons, Hobble Creek was quickly deemed to no longer be a viable right of way.

I haven't read the citations for the routes that are no longer being considered but when if you want to add some interesting aspects, it may be time to trim and rearrange for a better narrative. Another thought is to add this content to the relevant subject article. That they were once considered for a railroad can be an interesting aspect on how different it could have been and draw people to the railroad article. Excuse me, I was not doing original research. I saw the photo and assumed that Arizona and Nevada were just part of the Pacific Coast, and not having a coastline.
