A tip on moving pages[edit]

On 14 March you tagged Image:My Buttock.jpg for deletion. However, that image is hosted on the Commons and can't be deleted from here. All that I could delete was the page that you created when you added the prod tag. I will let an admin from the commons know about the image and then they can decide what to do about it. NYCS service Templates vs. Hard links[edit]

With this edit to Myrtle Avenue, you replaced the hard links (to the services for the station) in the intro with {{NYCS|J}}, etc.. This breaks functionality in Google Earth. Unfortunately, Google Earth can't display templates so that would be shown as is served by and trains at all times, and the train during rush hours. Ref template[edit]

Hi - I wanted to say thanks for creating Template:Smallref. I tried experimenting a bit with the size of the font today, but in doing so, noticed that the template starts to cause problems if it's used more than once; all refs end up appearing as duplicates of the first ref. I imagine this has something to do with the "name" field in your template.

All my edits have been constructive, not disruptive. Normally, the list of interlanguage links in an article cannot include the same language, as if you write [[en:SomeArticle]], it gets treated as [[SomeArticle]], which appears on its own page as SomeArticle. However, if the list of interwiki links is enclosed in <span style=display:none>...</span>, it has no effect on the links to other languages, which appear in their usual place on the left-hand side (perhaps these over-eager admins didn’t notice this), but suppresses the display of SomeArticle in the article text. This permits an identical list of interwiki links to appear in every language, which simplifies the task of adding a new language. (You can just copy the list from any one of the existing languages, only adding the new language, and not having to add the language you copied it from.)

As to my ignoring the request to stop, when I received the note on my talk page I immediately ceased enclosing the interwiki links (and I came nowhere near the 3RR!) and spent my time composing an appropriate reply. (I'm not the fastest of typists, after all,:) and I do like to spend some time away from the computer. ) After all, you could have explained it better than “This is not on;”. Frankly, blocking me for not getting back to you fast enough is more of an abuse of the administrative privilege than any abuse I may have committed of the editing privilege. This is not a good idea and you need to get consensus for it before continuing, which I don't believe you'll get. Block-copying sets of iw links is often quite inappropriate. No, citing the book makes no difference to its copyright status. The material can only be used if it is completely rewritten so that it is no longer a copy, or a close paraphrase of the text in the book. In other words, the facts can be used, but the words can't. Hi. I reverted your move of Aluminium bottle to Aluminum bottle. Consensus on Wikipedia, per Talk:Aluminium/Spelling is to use "aluminium" because this is what the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry uses. Please don't move pages against a general consensus without at least discussing the matter on the article's talk page. You know, I totally agree with you. When I type my articles on my computer using Calibri font, the quote marks all come out the way you inserted them. But then I see thousands (millions?) of other Wikipedia articles which use straight quote marks because that's the way they look when you type them in the editing window. Hamilton C shell[edit]

The proper name of the product is Hamilton C shell. It does not need to be prefaced by "the" nor should it be. It would like saying Microsoft sells "the Windows" or "the Word". Re: your confusion about the author's name, it is considered impolite to refer to a transgendered person by their old name in the manner you've done. From Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies#Guidelines: "The Wikipedia Manual of Style's guidelines on identity indicate to refer to transgender individuals according to the names and pronouns they use to identify themselves." While the product is notable, the author does not appear to be, hence my concern about the personal intrusion. Help build the visual language of Wikipedia at the first ever Wikimedia Foundation/Noun Project Iconathon

The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering up with the Noun Project to run the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon on April 6th at WMF headquarters, and you're invited!

What is an Iconathon: An iconathon is a co-design process where Wikimedia staff, the user community, and a few graphic designers collaboratively discuss what symbols could best represent a concept for an icon – for example, what's the best icon for New Editor, Revert or Oversight? Sketches will be converted into high fidelity icons by Noun Project graphic designers, and will be released under a free license for use by anyone on the Internet. Help build the free encyclopedia icon set that anyone in the world can share and reuse!

Logistics: The event runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on April 6th at the Wikimedia Foundation office in San Francisco. Follow the signs at the door! We'll have plenty of paper and pens/pencils for sketching.

We hope you can join us today, Wednesday, from 6 p.m. on, at our July Bay Area WikiSalon. This month only, we are going to be at Noisebridge, a hackerspace/makerspace 1.5 blocks from the 16th & Mission BART station (see the link for directions). Some of us will be working on the Wikipedia article on basic income. All info here. Some good news - we do not have to be as strict about advance RSVP at Noisebridge, so bring spontaneous guests! (Registering ahead of time is still helpful, as always, as it will help us plan ahead.)

Come and hang out, have some light snacks. Wi-Fi is available, so please bring your editing device if you plan to edit.

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:

  • Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We will have no formal agenda to allow people to freely share ideas and perhaps learn about Wikipedia through hands-on editing. Co-organizer Ben Creasy will be looking at election-related articles to enhance the information available in the upcoming November elections.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

This is a bit ridiculous, Hgrosser, but because you're insisting on breaching MOS:STRAIGHT in spite of a final warning, I've blocked you indefinitely. This is such a minor issue but refusing to communicate and refusing to resolve minor issues with your editing is considered disruptive editing. I need you to explain why you're ignoring feedback on inappropriate edits, and why you're refusing to abide by that incredibly simple MOS rule. You can return to editing whenever you stop it.
