Reviewer permission[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:10, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I should have said MOS:NICKNAME, not WP:NICKNAME. Steve is a hypocorism. We always put the full name in the lead. We never put anything in an infobox that's not in the body of the article. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:18, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Necrothesp: I see your point (and you are correct in terms of current stated guideline), but I think "Steve" needs to be in the lead, as it is the name he uses, and is used on his official UK Parliament page, which doesn't use his full birth name, although I'm not sure if he has changed his legal name. jamacfarlane (talk) 16:28, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's the point of the third paragraph of MOS:NICKNAME. Common hypocorisms don't need to be elaborated on, as they're in the article title. See Tony Blair, for instance, who is never referred to as Anthony. Yet "Tony" only appears in the article title and infobox, not in the first line. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:32, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You've convinced me. jamacfarlane (talk) 15:35, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You![edit]

I must thank you for your review of List of people from Jersey. I have been working on Jersey articles for six months, and watching articles I updated. I see from your contributions that you do reviews like this one frequently. I have reviewer authority, but in this instance I was unsure what to do. You did. Thanks again.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 01:24, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You recently moved Murphy High School (Mobile, Alabama) to the above title. That title is incorrect per DAB guidelines. It should be Murphy High School (Alabama), which as you can see is currently occupied by a redirect to this article. Please fix. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 06:24, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@John from Idegon and Ansh666: could you show me where it says this? I was relying on WP:USPLACE, although I recognise this is for places. jamacfarlane (talk) 08:16, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting. I cannot find anyplace where it does say that; however, whether it does or doesn't say that anywhere, it is an acceptable way to DAB, and it's the way all US schools are disambiguated (in some states, New York notably, school names are disambiguated whether they need be or not). BTW, I already got it moved. John from Idegon (talk) 09:16, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for adding an "unsigned" notice to my comment on WP:Articles for deletion/Local Education Agency. I think that's the first time that's happened, and I'm rather embarrassed! YorkshireLad  ✿  (talk) 09:31, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DS alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Note that I've leaving you this alert as an editor, not as an uninvolved admin. SarahSV (talk) 23:40, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alabama State Constitution amendment 693[edit]

Waaay back in July 2009 you added something to the page about the number 600, which also serves to record properties of numbers from 600 to 699, saying that 693 is 'the number of the "non-existing" Alabama State Constitution amendment'. But on the website of the Alabama State Legislature there's the Alabama State Constitution with its amendments and there's an Amendment 693 right there; there's also a page containing just that amendment. I'm wondering whether there's an urban legend or something. Anyway, unless I'm missing something the thing about a missing amendment is just wrong and I'm removing it; I'm leaving a note here in case I am missing something. Gareth McCaughan (talk) 00:54, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Gareth McCaughan! I've looked up this edit but have no recollection of it, so afraid I can't help. jamacfarlane (talk) 01:08, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. I just wanted to make sure that if I was wrong you had a chance to correct me if you wanted :-). Thanks for taking a look, anyway. Gareth McCaughan (talk) 15:26, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
