Welcome to WikiProject Theatre[edit]

Hello, and welcome to WikiProject Theatre!

Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list! Our goal is to make Wikipedia the the finest, most comprehensive resource of theatre topics available online. As a project member, you might like to introduce yourself on our talk page and maybe add the project membership userbox to your user page.

If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and browse our page of useful templates. When you have a moment, please take some time to review our article structure guidelines for theatre articles, which give a handy guide to sections you should try to include in articles about theatre. If you would like suggestions about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Project to do list and in our tasklist.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing!

I'm guessing[edit]

that you found the Mayan goddess (???) at the Mayan Revival architecture article, that you watch as part of your Theatre group participation? I am gearing up to make a few more edits on that article and getting your friendly feed back makes that even more likely. Life is good. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I find this.

The goddess holds a small piston engine with serrated gears..... The meaning on the images is difficult to untangle. . . . . . . The female figure on the left wall holds a piece of machinery that that looks like something that might have driven the store's heating and air-conditioning systems, thus calling attention to the stores advanced technology. [1]

. Feel free to go with that or forward your own opinion Carptrash (talk) 03:58, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Theatre Newsletter - February 2010[edit]

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (Febrauary 2010)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 5 - February 2010

Welcome to the latest WikiProject Theatre newsletter (the first in quite a while!) bringing you news of what's going on in the project, what progress we're making, and how you can get involved.

Latest News
  • All theatre articles currently tagged with a project banner have now been assessed for quality. There are still plenty to assess for importance, though - see the article assessment page for details.
  • There is now a News section on the main project page, updated automatically to keep us informed of developments in theatre articles.
Collaboration of the Month
  • Theatre has been nominated as the next project collaboration. This could be an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of one of our most important articles - listed as one of Wikipedia's top 1000 most vital articles - but it needs a lot of work before it can be considered for even good article nomination!
  • Stop by the collaboration page for tips on how to improve an article, to add your support, or to suggest alternative or future collaborations.
Jobs you can do

Any and all improvements to theatre-related articles will help the project, but if you're looking for something to do, have a look at the to-do list. Some current areas of priority are:

If you are currently working on a particular topic or area of the project, and would like to muster some support from other editors, feel free to add tasks to the to-do list. Or even think about setting up an informal working group - create a project subpage to organise tasks in a central location. Remember you can always discuss ideas with others at the project talk page.

New members

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

And finally...

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Members on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the list, or click here to stop receiving it.

American State Trials[edit]

Hi La Naranja, not sure if this is the right way to contact you. I humbly ask for your help. I'm ripping the hair out of my head trying to figure out how to get a copy of the 1918 American State Trials by Lawson online, i've spent hours on google and can't seem to figure it out and would appreciate your help. My interest is in reading the about the LF Trial. Machn (talk) 00:51, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I removed the tag you put at the top of Bonnie and Clyde. If you'd like to discuss changes to the article, please suggest them at the Talk page. Thanks! -- LaNaranja (talk) 06:24, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article needs to be completely re-written -- there is a clear bias, and it simply does not meet Wiki guidelines. Please reinstate the tag or re-write the article. Worc63 (talk) 15:49, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

April 2010[edit]

originally posted at Wildhartlivie's page (she removed it because she didn't like my edit summary):

I cant believe she reverted that without even looking at it. "Wildhartlivie," had you taken half a moment to look at the edits I made -- or had you ever even looked into the history of the article's revisions -- you easily would have seen what you've been protecting all these years. Take just this one sentence (can't believe Im having to do this):
What's been protected here since 2006: "An honor roll student in high school where she excelled in creative writing, [Bonnie] won a County League contest in literary arts, for Cement City School..."
Reality: At age 11 she helped to win a County League literary contest for Cement City School by placing first in subjunior spelling. You would have known this had you ever even looked at the newspaper article that's been in place there for the last four years.
See for yourself: this is the original (incorrectly formatted) citation: < ref >Youngblood, Dorothy. "Bonnie Parker's Classmate: Records of the County Literary Contest." TexasHideout. Accessed May 2, 2006.< /ref >
What's been protected here since 2006: "...and even gave introductory speeches for local politicians."
Reality: "[W]hen she was seven, candidates in Cement City used to take her out with them to help them make speeches before election time. Bonnie was so cute and so witty, and such a pretty little trick, that the candidates knew they could always count on getting crowds if they took her along."< ref >Parker, Cowan and Fortune, p 49< /ref >.
Now compare the original weaselation with my long overdue correction. Which is the more responsible?
In other words, just because something is "sourced content" doesnt mean the source backs up the content (the Internet Accuracy Project source for some birth and death dates doesnt even contain those birth and death dates, for example), and just because content has been in place forever doesn't mean it's correct. Surely you know this.
Harrington in his kind and polite note to you mentions the entertainment reporter's waste-of-space quote that's still there after all these years. That quote is misleading as well, on at least two fronts, as, well, you would know had you ever read it. Give it a look and see if you can tell what's wrong with it.
You posted to HS you've been up for 22 hours. Well, maybe you shouldnt be "editing" when even you admit you're not thinking straight, you reckon?! This isn't a video game. Good heavens, "I hope we can figure out how to keep it," too. You don't even read this article you think you're protecting. It's one thing to be overinvested and another thing entirely to not even know what you're invested in.
It would be nice if people who are interested in the article would work toward actually improving it instead of impeding its progress. Would you like to help, Wildhartlivie? I'll assume you'll apply the good faith presumption from here on in, and will make an effort to think before you act. I'll put my changes back in and I look forward to your constructive assistance. -- LaNaranja (talk) 10:09, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on User talk:Wildhartlivie. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you don't have anything nicer to say than that, then please don't go to the trouble to post to my talk page. You could learn some manners from HarringtonSmith. " same message, different package" doesn't give you free passage to be incivil. Wildhartlivie (talk) 10:22, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, in fact, I removed it because I didn't like the incivil tone the post took. nor do I much care for the completely self-serving light the repost of his attack post to me was characterized. I removed his bad faith post because it was incivil and took the tone of a personal attack. There is no guideline that states that an editor is required to retain such a bad faith and incivil post and there is no guideline that states that the poster is allowed to completely misrepresent the reason the incivility was removed, such as he has done here. Casting aspersions based on his perception of my "state of mind" based on his belief that I had been awake too long, making bad faith assumptions about whether or not I was willing to "help", when the post was made directly after an actually civil post from someone else about the same issue, and the editor's bad faith accusations about his view of my assessment of the changes he made and his edit warring to return the same posts that I had issues with. Another editor on the same article approached me about my concerns and my response was to ask to wait until today to respond. Rather than wait for the response and the discussion to follow, like a reasonable editor who edits in complete good faith, LaNaranja reverted me completely and incivilly pushed his own POV edits to the page. This is not congenial editing nor is it good faith. It is never good faith to post a rambling post like the one the editor has reposted above and not expect his bad faith incivility to be objectionable. Neither is is his crass edit warring behavior. Check for yourself. Wildhartlivie (talk) 13:21, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Olivares[edit]

I see you've edited the article on the Count-Duke of Olivares. I posted the following on its talk page tonight and I'd be interested to hear if you have an opinion on this subject:

"I'm not an expert on the Spanish biographical articles by any stretch, but it seems to me that the majority of the ones I've seen don't include the "y" portion of the person's name in the title, e.g. it's Luis de Góngora, not Luis de Góngora y Argote; Francisco Goya, not Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes; Óscar Romero, not Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez; Enrique Pérez de Guzmán, 2nd Count de Niebla, not Enrique Pérez de Guzmán y de Castilla, 2nd Count of Niebla; etc. I think the logic is similar to the reason why we don't include middle names in the article title unless the person's middle name is widely used.

"So, by that logic, it seems to me that this article's title should be "Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares", not "Gaspar de Guzmán y Pimentel, Count-Duke of Olivares".

Thoughts?"

A tag has been placed on William M. Smith (attorney) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
