Issue on Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox[edit]

Hello, I think one of your edits to Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox created a table error which is reflecting on a few dozen pages, but I'm not seeing the issue, and not familiar with Module's code. Would you take a look and see if something pops out to you for this? Thanks, Zinnober9 (talk) 00:44, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will check, thanks for reporting! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:28, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wenyunlu (03:55, 25 April 2024)[edit]

Hi Martin.

After editing a page, on the relevant source, it shows "Cited by user Wenyunlu on 25 Apr 2024" - how I remove this user information?

Thank you

Wenyun --Wenyunlu (talk) 03:55, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Wenyunlu on which page are you seeing this? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:27, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Martin.
I added one reference (ref 26) to this wiki page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/?curid=11789595
And then when I reach the webpage for that journal article and under "Altmertric", https://acs.altmetric.com/details/154699554/wikipedia
It shows information like this:
"MALDI imaging
Cited by user Wenyunlu on 25 Apr 2024
..."
My question is how to hide that "Cited by user Wenyunlu.." so that my username don't show up.
Thank you.
Wenyun Wenyunlu (talk) 13:26, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea. That is produced by that website, and I don't think we have any control over that whatsoever — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:19, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from BeacHal1 (09:35, 25 April 2024)[edit]

I’ve just had a note about vandalising wiki!!! How exactly have I vandalised anything? I would say the ‘editors’ that objected to the factual info I put up yesterday didn’t in fact edit they just removed my edit completely - which seems more like vandalism to me. I was accused of being paid which I wasn’t. This gallery is a non commercial space that needs help and doesn’t have big marketing teams behind it as most galleries do. I am amazed wiki allows for those publicity rife spaces which do have paid marketing teams etc etc and is going after someone trying to do good instead… It’s a bit depressing, frankly, as I was trying to flesh out the wiki site with people and places that are much more ethical environments --BeacHal1 (talk) 09:35, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

curious[edit]

is there an ur document, source of where and how the whole banner shell thing came about? As a long term talk page tagger I find it hard to explain to people why and how the enthusiasm rose. I have been a rater user since it started (I think) and along with a few other issues with talk pages and the very weird array of projects that wikipedia has to offer, I think I might have missed the point where this industry came from. Any clues or links would be appreciated, thanks. JarrahTree 04:34, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean when the banner shell was first developed? Or are you referring to the recent change (WP:PIQA) where the banner shell is used to rate articles? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:21, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The latter... JarrahTree 09:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see WP:PIQA and follow the link to the village pump proposal — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:51, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Intriguing, such coy and quiet beginnings to a wikipedia wide change, the humility is very hard to believe, and not a single extended talk page project tagging editor in sight in the whole discussion. Thanks for the link, there is insufficient broader explanation as to what is/has been going on, and I think for that, you folks (the industry) are your own detriment. There should have been a write up somewhere, as it affects the whole project. In view of the usual wikipedia wide things that get signpost or wider explanations, I think the a decided lack of publicity across the project is a major fault, regardless of the otherwise positive net benefit. WPBannerMeta/hooks/taskforces/taskforce[edit]

Hi, now that you deleted Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/taskforces/taskforce, could you change the default for |TASKFORCE_TEMPLATE= in Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/taskforces and Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/taskforces/core? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 13:49, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What do you suggest I change it to? This is old deprecated code and no one should be using it for any future projects. I hope to remove all uses eventually — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:53, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I changed it to an error message. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 13:08, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Thande P (18:53, 29 April 2024)[edit]

Hello, which article do you suggest I start with? --Thande P (talk) 18:53, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, what topics interest you? Do you have any expertise in a particular area? All subjects are covered, so you need to narrow it down a bit! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:19, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Questions from BHelenaGG[edit]

Hi, I have created a draft Wiki Bio of Rachel Frances Alexander. But when I go to upload it for checking this is the message I receive:

No stashed content found for 0/0490841c-fd6a-11ee-911a-79a5389a15b9 Can you let me know what I should do? Thanks --BHelenaGG (talk) 10:11, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@BHelenaGG I have no idea! Where are you uploading it to? Can I suggest you try to create Draft:Rachel Frances Alexander with your content? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:50, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think I have moved the article I created on Rachel Frances Alexander from my sandbox to be checked by other reviewers, but I am not sure. Can you see if it is pending checks? I am a new user so I know it wouldn't just upload direclty. Many thanks for your help. --BHelenaGG (talk) 08:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I can see User:BHelenaGG/sandbox but this is not yet submitted for review. I can do that for you, if you wish? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:45, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have published your article and made a few minor adjustments. Nice work! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:38, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Could use some help debugging, the WPBS isn't translating the NA-class through to the various projects, and I'm losing my damn mind over it. I can set the class to Start, C, etc, but "Redirect" and "NA" don't seem to do anything. Primefac (talk) 18:07, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That is the intentional behaviour :) All NA-classes should be detected automatically. I'll take a look ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:42, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As soon as a redirect is proposed for deletion is stops being a redirect, and so is not automatically detected by the template. I have posted at Module talk:Pagetype to see if we can fix that — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:57, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks for that. I still think setting |class=NA (or redir) should actually do what it says... I wouldn't be surprised if there are pages that a project didn't want to classify. Primefac (talk) 12:10, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Redirects under discussion should now be detected as redirects — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's great (legitimately, thanks for following up with that), but it still doesn't change the fact that if a page should (for whatever reason) manually be marked as NA, it cannot be. Primefac (talk) 10:01, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There was a lot of discussion about this when we started implementing PIQA. See Template talk:WikiProject banner shell/Archive 10#Ignore class on non-article pages? for some background. This was mainly about ignoring |class=redirect on pages which were not redirects, but it had the consequence that all non-article classes defined in |class= are now ignored, as they can be detected automatically — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:26, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, MSGJ,

I saw that this "draft" was due for CSD G13 deletion next week but it doesn't look like a draft at all but like a talk page for some other page. You were the last editor to edit the page so I thought I'd ask if this page should be moved elsewhere. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 04:20, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a draft version of a template. Probably safe to delete — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:58, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rating[edit]

Hi @MSGJ, Thanks for that correction. It seems to be the second time or more than, I guess. Can you help me explain it well. Do you mean it isn't necessary adding it to the others when it already exist in the main shell. Regards! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:15, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes that is correct. Thanks! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:16, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You know mistakes are avoidable. I am not insinuating making it again. But just Incase, continue the correction. I owe you a rock too. Thanks! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:21, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lookinsidecoach (06:07, 15 May 2024)[edit]

hey martin, I'm new here and want create an article.can you help me? --Lookinsidecoach (talk) 06:07, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you could read Help:Your first article for information. What topic would you like to write about? You can write a draft article and only submit it when you think it is ready — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Hello, MSGJ,

I noticed that you tagged Category:Articles using WikiProject banner shell with empty class parameter for CSD C1 speedy deletion. Would it also be suitable to remove the empty cat tag from parent category Category:Pages using WikiProject banner shell without a project-independent quality rating and tag it as an empty category? Just thought I'd check in about it. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 18:51, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No thank you, we are still using that one. Cheers — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:38, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Fauji Enthusiast (17:27, 19 May 2024)[edit]

Hi, let me tell you a scenario. I want to create a battle but I'm not sure how to add references in the battle infobox. Could you please tell me? I want to use a reference i got for the infobox, and for something else. Basically, I'm going to reuse the reference i put in the battle on other paragraphs as well. Thanks. Also, what is the difference between footnotes, references and sources? Thanks so much and have a good day! :) --Fauji Enthusiast (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I couldn't find my editing page of the article I created. Could you please tell me where to enter the editing page? Thanks --Xujtimes (talk) 07:42, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean Draft:Bodioid? Your April version was deleted as a copyright infringement of https://arxiv.org/pdf/2403.02972 You are not allowed to copy from other websites without permission. Also, it was not written in an appropriate tone for an encyclopedia anyway — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:24, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia meetups in July 2024 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 03:47, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So what's the difference between how I did it versus how you styled it? The information is all there regardless. Snickers2686 (talk) 13:52, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
