El Niño[edit]

Regarding your addition of the info on " Anti-Niño" that you added to the El Niño article: I had never seen the term, so I Googled it. It looks like it is most commonly found on Spanish-language websites. Do you know any more about the usage of the word that might be appropriate to add to the El Niño article? Image copyright problem with Image:Yaodong Yangjialing Zhou Enlai.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yaodong Yangjialing Zhou Enlai.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --cohesiontalk 09:09, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Bju_scene_02.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bju_scene_02.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Request for edit summary[edit]

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 4% for major edits and 89% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 9 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 08:30, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carnildo: I downloaded those images from the official website of Beijing Jiaotong University. I don't know the authors of those images---except I assumed that the university authority would agree with the use of those images in a Wikipedia entry about their university. --Roland 21:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

"I believe they would agree with the use" isn't good enough. Wikipedia requires the images to be explicitly released under a free license, such as the GFDL or one of the Creative Commons licenses that allows re-use and commercial use. --Carnildo 03:08, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Day length[edit]

Hi, is there any content to go with the image on the Day length page? The image on it's own seems like original research, and will probably be deleted. Kevin 04:09, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I myself did the computation and plotting using standard formulas. It may be considered original, but it is not too much original. --Roland 04:16, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
If you could put some text as well, to put the image into context for readers that would be useful. I would have a go myself, but I don't know the subject. Kevin 04:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Miura Tomokazu Yamaguchi Momoe.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Miura Tomokazu Yamaguchi Momoe.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Glenn Cowan.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Glenn Cowan.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. File copyright problem with File:Day length quick.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Day length quick.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 04:41, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Roland Longbow! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,194 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

File:Day_length_quick.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Day_length_quick.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Hi there. I nominated one of your images for deletion because it was a JPEG plot. I have made an equivalent PNG at Hours_of_daylight_vs_latitude_vs_day_of_year.png. No hard feelings. -- Jalanpalmer (talk) 01:17, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Xue Jinghua Liu Qingtang.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. I'm really not sure what you're trying to do with the gallery there. There's no need to reintroduce the full title of the church in the church's own article. There's a format already used for the other 4 images in that gallery, why introduce a different format for a 5th image? And if you're going to include a date (which really isn't necessary), please use the same format as dates elsewhere in the article per WP:MOS. I've reverted your unexplained change - please explain yourself here or on the article talk page before amending it further. Thanks, Stalwart111 01:17, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dichter und Bauer moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Dichter und Bauer, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 01:57, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My idea is that if I put something incomplete there, other folks will edit/modify it or add new material to it to make it better and more complete in time. (Isn't this the advantage of the way Wikipedia works?) It is apparently hard for anyone to produce an article that is immediately full-fledged and perfect, which is perhaps why this article has never been created in spite of the fact that many people are looking for it because of its famous overture. Meanwhile, the Library of Congress has a 19th century copy of the original libretto in German Dichter und Bauer. Libretto. German. Someone who is good at German can start from there. --Roland (talk) 07:53, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

March 2019[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from using talk pages such as Talk:Atmospheric pressure for general discussion of the topic or other unrelated topics. They are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways, based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines; they are not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See here for more information. On second thought, level two for this. We've already discussed this on my talk page, you added a what-if scenario with a ridiculous number, you added to more than one a talk page, you added completely off topic material about the deepest drill hole on Earth, and you pointed to your post on a different article's talk page where you duplicated the material. The point you made about the air pressure in the deepest mine might be worth adding. Feel free to restore that part, but without all of the other material. Meters (talk) 04:22, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the level one NOTAFORUM warning since I replaced it. Here is the comment I made in that post: "'Stop doing this. I removed your comments from that talk page once already. Finding a 10 year old thread to stick them back into is not useful." Meters (talk) 04:30, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You treat editors like mere brick layers, as if all the bricks are already there and they only need to lay them. But no single editor has all the relevant topics about an article in his/her mind. One editor suggests a topic, another one may have the material to create a new section. Also, if Journey to Center of Earth is relevant, why is not my comment following it? --Roland (talk) 05:55, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's a 10-year-old talk page thread. There's no point in doing anything with it.
Read WP:NOTAFORUM and please stop making off topic comments. You have a habit of making these types of comments on talk pages. Sometimes they are simply ignored, and sometimes people actually try to comment only to find that you never come back. If you want to suggest an addition to an article then suggest the addition directly, and other editors can discuss whether it is worth adding to the article. Don't ask leading questions or make off topic statements (for instance, the depth of the deepest borehole is irrelevant in the air pressure article. Drilling fluids are used when drilling deep bore, and the pressure from the fluid far exceeds what pressure would be.) Meters (talk) 19:08, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Believe it or not, today I found a serious paper (Berberan-Santos et al., 2010) in an academic journal (Journal of Mathematical Chemistry) talking about exactly the same thing. Not only it confirms my theoretical calculation based on ideal gas law, it provides a more realistic estimate based on Van der Waals equation. In addition, it mentions the gravity train as well as the deepest borehole.

July 2019[edit]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:Ecliptic, you may be blocked from editing. Don't change your talk page posts after they have already been replied to. It is not appropriate to change the content that has already been replied to, or to change the signature date, particularly on a three-year-old thread. It makes it impossible to follow the thread.
