Michael Hogan[edit]

A few years back you wrote a wiki page on michae.l hogan he’s my great great grandfather and i’m looking to find more information on him if you have any! thanks Kiz1er (talk) 14:01, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Kiz1er:, I'm afraid I don't have any more information than what is in the Michael Hogan (Irish politician) article. As he was an MP, you could try looking through his contributions in the House of Commons, from the Hansard link in the article. Spleodrach (talk) 19:37, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Taoiseach being a common noun[edit]

The word Taoiseach isn't considered a common noun in Irish. Therefore it is meant to be capitalised. I know this as I am a fluent Irish speaker, but I can also back this up as RTE capitalises Taoiseach, such as in the article concerning Varadkar's resignation. Dual The Eggist (talk) 13:17, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dual The Eggist: This is the English language wikipedia, and the article is in English. As taoiseach is used in English as a loan word, it follows the rules of the borrowing language, not the original language. Also, Wikipedia has its own guidelines, and does not follow usages on media like RTE or the Irish Times. I note that the BBC uses lower case, but in any case, WP does not follow other organisations rules, only its own, which are spelt out in MOS:JOBTITLE. Spleodrach (talk)

Dan P Brown[edit]

Hi, why why did you remove Daniel P Brown from this list? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Daniel_Brown&diff=1177902354&oldid=1138117143 ? As a professor at Harvard Medical School, author of numerous books and one of the important translators of meditation texts from Tibetan and Sanskrit (e.g. Bon, Mahamudra) into English https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/593594.Daniel_P_Brown, he should be relevant? Tine (talk) 19:35, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He does not have an article. Spleodrach (talk) 23:54, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't it practice in the english WP, to list relevant people even when there is no article about them yet? --Tine (talk) 06:47, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not it is not. If he was notable, then he would have an article. IF you think he is notable, then why don't you create an article? Spleodrach (talk) 08:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citing TikTok?[edit]

Hi, just wanted to pick your brains on whether or not to add a candidate (Malachy Steenson) to 2024 European Parliament election in Ireland, with a tiktok video as reference. I know WP:USERGENERATED advises against it, but per WP:SOCIALMEDIA it might be alright because it's published by Malachy Steenson himself. I did find a second source here but I don't think it's a fully reliable source either. Anyway, the TikTok is available here. Thanks, Boardwalk.Koi (talk) 17:03, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Boardwalk.Koi: I had a look at WP:SOCIALMEDIA. and my reading is that its ok to use it as a reference. I don't know about the reliability of the europeanconservative.com website. I have no objections to Malachy Steenson been added. It would be nice to a mainstream media reference but that won't probably happen for a while; or until closer to the election date. Spleodrach (talk) 11:17, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input. I'll go ahead and add him now so. Boardwalk.Koi (talk) 16:34, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
