Hi, I have a question regarding your edit here: [1]. Which of these two references are non-original? I mean, for 5-6 sentences you can't find any better sources, and that's why this article is a stub. Sources I provided are truly neutral. Convince me opposite, but your "tag edit" is kind of wrong. Thanks.--AirWolf (talk) 11:39, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello, AirWolf. You make an excellent point. I looked at references again and have reverted the tag I placed previously.Stesmo (talk) 16:59, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

As per instructions here [2], I've created a new username localwikiman. Could you help me attribute Simple Sales Tracking to this non-company referenced username? Localwikiman (talk) 23:19, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Localwikiman (talk) 23:17, 5 August 2014 (UTC)localwikiman

Also - I have added 3rd party source references to qualify the launch date. I've also removed some text that could be deemed promotional. Please help me to fix this. Localwikiman (talk) 23:19, 5 August 2014 (UTC)localwikiman.

your undo on User_talk:Exameron

You undid a talk page blanking here. You might want to read Wikipedia talk:User pages#Can block notices be removed while the user is still blocked? It seems that editors are allowed to blank active block notices, just not declined unblock requests. Meters (talk) 19:27, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Page marked for deletion - Lenny Pridatko

Hi, I cleaned up my page, Lenny Pridatko, to comply with wikipedia's policies against self-promotion. Please advise if there is anything else I can do. Thanks, Shmendr (talk) 23:44, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Please take a look at the Wikipedia:Notability page. What you need to do is show that Lenny Pridatko is Notable by Wikipedia's standards. The photos look really nice and Lenny may be an up-and-comer in the photography world. But, at this point, is he notable enough for inclusion into this encyclopedia? This is one of the questions being asked in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lenny Pridatko. Currently, I believe Lenny is talented, but is not notable yet. And the references provided in Lenny Pridatko do not convince me otherwise. You may still have a couple days in the AfD process and other editors may disagree and vote to Keep instead of Delete. Stesmo (talk) 17:16, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

I would like the page deleted in its entirety

Stesmo, who are you? I am Rey Chow, and I would prefer that there not be this page on me. Could you email me at Rey.Chow@duke.edu? 24.162.252.119 (talk) 19:58, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Rey Chow

I'm one of the millions of Wikipedia editors, like you! Any editor, including you, can nominate an article for deletion by following the instructions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Then, other editors can vote to Keep or Delete the article. Once a consensus is reached, the page will be kept or deleted. If you don't see "This is about me and I want it deleted" as a valid reason for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, you may want to visit the Teahouse and pose your questions to more experienced editors there. Justme1234567

Id like to know why my adjustment was deleted? it was correct. Serena associates but is not one because she is not baptized. From what I investigated, in order to be considered one you have to be baptized. this was confirmed first hand my one. My sentence was just clearing that up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justme1234567 (talkcontribs) 22:53, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Justme. Serena Williams self-professes to be a Jehovah's witness in the sources provided at section you changed. There is nothing in the source provided that backs up the not-baptized statement. In addition, you accidentally removed part of the word "Witnesses" in the title of the source, leaving just "W", which you [see here]. Thank you for your message here, as I had not noticed Serena William's page has had an un-sourced statement that she was not baptized. And, it has been like that since April! That doesn't fit with Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, so I've removed the (was not baptized) statement. If someone can find a reliable, published, third-party source for that statement, it can be added back. Stesmo (talk) 00:24, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Ryanrodgers3535

Everything I have entered today has been correct none of it was vandalism nothing has been wrong. You take what I write away because I don't have a source. You don't always need a source (Unsigned comment by Ryanrodgers3535)

Hi, Ryan. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. You'll find there are three core policies with editing the articles of living people: Neutral Point of View (NPOV), Verifiability and No Original Research. "Marshawn Lynch signed a six year $196 milioon dollar contract with the Cleveland Browns" would be huge news and finding a reliable, third-party source should be easy. Before reverting your edit, I actually tried to verify your news to see if a source could be added and came up empty. Hours later, I see no news articles at the Seattle Times or elsewhere that they're losing Marshawn Lynch to Cleveland. If there is no source, then it shouldn't be added to his page. And, looking at your edits Special:Contributions/Ryanrodgers3535, you can see that page blanking and the edits you were making look more like vandalism and less like valid, constructive edits. Thanks for asking for clarification. Take a look at the Welcome section of your Talk page and take a look at the links to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia and the policies and guidelines. Futuresticksjohn

Hello Stesmo, this is Futuresticksjohn. I am new to this. My question regarding my edit is if I removed the link to the webpage, would the edit be allowed since both China and USA issued a valid patent to the new design> Thank You```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Futuresticks john (talkcontribs) 02:24, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, John! Not adding a an external spam link is always a good idea. However, I'm not sure your edit would fly past the Wikipedia:Spam policy even without the external link. Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion and if you are involved in any way with the product, you're probably running afoul of the Conflict of Interest (COI) policies (see Am I allowed to edit articles about myself or my organization?). Stesmo (talk) 02:40, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Stesmo, I appreciate your information. Your point is well taken, and I appreciate you keeping me from mistake. Best wishes and Thanks again.```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Futuresticks john (talkcontribs) 03:38, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

BoobsRealm

Hi I inclluded the link as it is an interview with her. I think that the content on that link is none different than the content on her site -already listed- in terms of adult friendly — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boobsrealm (talkcontribs) 19:41, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, BoobsRealm (talk · contribs). I reverted your edit solely based on it was an external link to a company website from an editor who appeared to represent that company (aka SPAM). I did not review the link and I do not pass any judgement on the contents of the link. If you are an employee or representative of the company, please take a look at Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest before editing entries where you might have a Conflict of Interest (COI). BoobsRealm

Ok, I wil change my username, but I still consider the link has no issue based on what was previously indicated — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boobsrealm (talkcontribs) 19:44, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, BoobsRealm. In addition to what I mentioned above, here is the template I used after reverting your external link: Template:Uw-spam1. In this case, the "inappropriate for an encyclopdia" refers to SPAM than to the adult nature of the link. Stesmo (talk) 19:55, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Cmon stesmo, man. We know my edits on the 5sos page were helpful. No use letting all those teenage girls believe that it's real music. It'll only hurt them in the long run. Sincerely, your local nigga Tyrone Bang bang

Sorry, Ledthezepfloyd. Real music or not, your edits didn't meet up with Wikipedia's policies. Stesmo (talk) 23:09, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Questions on references/citing.

Hey Stesmo,

After looking at the guidelines for NPV and spam, I have a couple of questions about the SEAS wiki article. So, I know there is a "no original work" policy. However, a significant amount of research about the history of SEAS has been conducted by the university itself and they have published their findings. Can I cite their studies as a source? Also, in this sentence: "In 2012, as part of its strategic commitment to offering a high-impact undergraduate experience, the Engineering School established the Department of Engineering and Society (E&S)" In order to comply with wiki's Spam policy I shouldn't link to the E&S webpage, but rather to an article that describes the creation of said department. Is that correct? One more thing: In that same paragraph on the "History" section, for this sentence "the Washington, D.C. Science and Technology Policy Internship" would it be ok to add an external link to the school's website of that program? I appreciate the insight.

Huh, Mares translates to Seas? How very Freudian slip of me. MaresFruta (talk) 13:51, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, MaresFruta. The question about using university research seems like it may depend on the form (University Press, peer-reviewed study, etc. vs. website created to market a program, student website created for a student project, etc.) it takes. Your best bet would be to ask this question at the Teahouse. There, a more experienced Wikipedia editor could probably answer this question better than I can. I'm interested in what the answer would be as well.
For the question about the E&S establishment, yes. The best source would be a third-party, reliable source.
Personally, I go with WP:PROVEIT. If the only reference is the equivalent of a brochure / sales pitch (aka not neutral, not-reliable), perhaps that sentence doesn't need to be in the article. Stesmo (talk) 18:15, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Your Undo on Eureqa

The article cited for the inference of "non-scientific" simply stated '“In the past year, people have contacted us with some wild application ideas,” said Schmidt. “Everything from predicting the stock market to modeling the herding of cows.”' Stating that these activities are non-scientific are based solely on the opinion editor and not based on the information contained in the article. It is very likely that the persons studying the herding of cattle were in-fact performing science. They were likely in the field of Rangeland Sciences, but like I said, the article gives no indication one way or the other. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BraRemover (talkcontribs) 22:13, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, BraRemover. You raise a good point here. I have reverted my change. Thanks for stopping by and bring this up! Stesmo (talk) 22:20, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

FactCheckerMchenry

Did a bit of fact checking on him after helping him prepare some lecture notes for his medieval history class, he made a few claims to his past that are suspect at best. I'd love to include the email from Loyola's admissions office stating they have no record of him but I'm guessing that's not allowed since it contains personal information.

When a person claims to co workers that he is has a phd when he only was a candidate and never awarded I think it is important to note the actual situation 'he was a phd candidate but for unknown reasons was not awarded'. He is probably going to be fired from Mchenry County shortly. Columbia has already fired him for exaggerating his vitae. (submitted by User:FactCheckerMchenry}

Hi, FactCheckerMchenry . Please read the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons page before editing an article about a living person. Especially note:

All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be explicitly attributed to a reliable, published source, which is usually done with an inline citation. Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Users who persistently or egregiously violate this policy may be blocked from editing.

The key here is to include reliable, third-party, published sources backing up your edits. Stesmo (talk) 19:47, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
