Draft of CSI: NY character page[edit]

Current Cast[edit]

Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), is the head of the Crime Lab. He's a widower whose wife died on 9/11 and he still struggles with her death[1]. Prior to working in the crime lab, he served in the Marine Corps.[2]. Both his wife's death and his service in the Marines play a signficant role in his character throughout the show's development and Taylor has been described as intense, direct and needing to know not just the 'how' but also the 'why' of various crimes.[3] Mac has said he will protect three things at any cost: The honor of his country, the safety of his city, and the integrity of his lab. When CSI: NY moved to take on the virtual world in an episode featuring Second Life, Taylor's character played a crucial role. [4]Taylor was romantically linked with Dr. Peyton Driscoll in CSI:NY's second season.

Detective Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), is Mac Taylor's second in command and has been called "Ms. Warmth" to Taylor's "Mr Cool".[5] An orphan with fierce independence, intelligence and determination[3], Bonasera has faced several crises throughout the show's run. Through these arcs, one involving Bonasera's relationship with Frankie Mala (Ed Quinn), wherein she was forced to shoot Mala after he made an attempt on her life,Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). and another involving HIV exposure[6], CSI: NY writers have shown their willingness to tackle important social issues and have a strong female lead.

Detective Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo), is a street-smart young detective whose family and upbringing play crucial roles in CSI:NY stories. [7] Messer has butted heads with Taylor on occasion due to his unorthodox practices and was linked during the show's season to an unsolved murder that occurred during his teenage years. His name was ultimately cleared. In CSI:NY's third season, Messer was romatically linked with colleague Lindsay Monroe.[8]

Detective Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap) was not a member of the original cast, but made her debut in the show's second season following Detective Aiden Burn's departure. Monroe had three years of experience as a CSI in her native Montana[9] and the drastic differences between New York and Montana are often the subject of ribbing between Monroe and her co-workers. It is unknown why Monroe decided to move to New York although episodes have hinted at a strained relationship with her father. A crime that she witnessed as a young girl is cited as the reason that Monroe became a CSI. [8]In the third season, she was romantically linked with Danny Messer.[8]

Detective Donald Flack, Jr. (Eddie Cahill) is an edgy cop with quick mouth who comes from a family of police officers.[7]. Unlike the majority of the cast, Flack is not a CSI. It is unknown how he was assigned this detail.

Doctor Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper) was originally one of the crime lab's medical examiners, a role which later was filled by Sid Hammerback. Hawkes has been described as a prodigy who walked away from emergency medicine due to stress[7] and a dislike of seeing his patients die, which has been used in his character's development. At the end of the show's first season, Hawkes expressed to Detective Taylor his desire to join Taylor's team and he does so in the show's second season.

Lab Assistant Adam Ross (AJ Buckley) is a lab assistant rather than a CSI [10] and it is unknown whether he seeks to become a CSI eventually. Although he has played a role in many episodes, his biggest role has been that of guiding the other Detectives through Second Life, due to his familiarity with the virtual world.[11]

Former Cast[edit]

Detective Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito) was in the show's original cast but was fired at the start of the second season after Detective Taylor accused her of evidence tampering. [12] Burn is a strong investigator whose specialty lies in skeletal identification and facial reconstruction[7]. Burn returned to the show at the end of the second season as a murder victim.[13]

Doctor Peyton Driscoll (Claire Forlani), joined the cast in the beginning of the third season as a medical examiner and love interest for Sinise's character [13]. Her character has a past connection with Sheldon Hawkes. Discussion of Draft[edit]

Please don't edit the draft, I know it's not final. I'm just using this as a WIP.

Current Issues:

  • trying to limit this to citable sources rather than Cruft.
  • under minor characters/guest stars, a note to see the list of characters -- there just isn't much cited about the characters to describe them Travellingcari (talk) 23:12, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
