Mission: Greek War of Independence[edit]

Mission Coordinator: Kyriakos (War in the Peloponnese)

Please direct queries and comments concerning this mission and its goals to its talk page.

Scope[edit]

  • Editors involved: Yannismarou (Diplomatic history, involvement of European countries, MoS and Referencing consistency), Damac, Grk1011, Michael X the White,(more editors are expected to add their names here!)
  • Objectives:
    1. Bring the article to at least GA status

Comments from proposals[edit]

Progress[edit]

  • Initial status: The lead is not a proper summary; the citations and references need further formatting; is the massacres section accurate? The photo gallery should be removed etc. etc. etc.--Yannismarou (talk) 08:21, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Current status: Thanks to the efforts of many users (in particular Kyriakos, Damac, Pel Thal, Grk1011, and Michael the White) the article has been improved: sources have been added, copy-editing took place, pictures were added etc. But there is still work to be done. Specifically:
  • The lead needs some expansion per WP:LEAD, in order to constitute a comprehensive summary of the article.
  • In citation 5 I read: "Clogg, Concise History of Greece (Greek edition)". Could we stick to one version of the book, preferably the English one?
Done --157.228.x.x (talk) 17:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is no reason the quote in citation 2 to be so long. I trimmed it a bit.
  • "In 1603, an attempt took place in Morea to restore the Byzantine Empire." What do we mean by "restore" exactly?
  • I replace Paroulakis, wherever I can.
  • I did some cleaning in the "Background". There are MoS problems throughout the article (dashes, for instance), and consistency problems in the citations and references.
Unfortunately, I do not have time today to continue after "Background". The article is obviously improved, but I am not sure it is ready yet for GAC. I think we should give it two more weeks (until October 15), and then re-evaluate its status. More comments of mine will come during the next days.--Yannismarou (talk) 12:22, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the article looks better. However several sections still need expansion and improvement. These include: Peloponnese, Central Greece, Crete, Greek infighting and parts of the European intervention. I'll also try and improve the lead if I have time in the next few days. • Status as of October 2008: on Hold:After Yannis' semi-retirement, the entire mission is on hold, till he returns or the rest of us make a decision about it.--Michael X the White (talk) 12:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • 8 December 2008: After Yannis's return the mission continues! We are close to nomination now.--Michael X the White (talk) 16:27, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • 24 December 2008: The article is definitely much improved, but in order to be sure that it will pass GAC, there are some things we should still fix:
  • The intro needs some expansion per WP:LEAD.
  • In "Danubian principalities" I don't see why we should have O.S. dates.
  • Second paragraph of "Central Greece" needs some citing. "Crete" has no citations.
  • "War at Sea" is undercited.
  • "Greek Infighting" completely uncited.
  • I'll today work on the last paragraphs of "European Intervention".
  • "Massacres" should be revised and properly written to make sure it is neutral and NPOV.
  • We should get rid of "Gallery" after we decide if we want to keep any pictures within the main article.
  • After all that, a final copy-editing by a skilled native English editor is recommended.--Yannismarou (talk) 14:42, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with Yanni. Once things are done. then the article will be ready for the push to greatness. Also Xronia Polla everyone. Kyriakos (talk) 23:36, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Greek Infighting" is also non-comprehensive. It does not adequately describe the events related with the two civil wars during the Revolution.--Yannismarou (talk) 17:24, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • True. Thaat section probably needs the most work. Kyriakos (talk) 01:08, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
