This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.

[edit] Standard procedures
If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing users talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.
Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.
When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.
Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.
When a page listed here has been translated, its entry can be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).

[edit] Boilerplate text
For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):
- 1. Use the notice {{Notenglish|NameOfLanguage}} if you know the language used, or {{Notenglish}} if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
| This article needs translation into English. This article is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Wikipedia in that language. See list of Wikipedias. Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If the article is not rewritten in English within the next two weeks it will be listed for deletion and/or moved to the Wikipedia in its current language. If you have just labeled this page as needing translation, please add {{subst:Needtrans | pg = Pages needing translation into English | Language = unknown | Comments = }} ~~~~to the bottom of this section of Pages needing translation into English. |
- 2. Add a mention on this page, using:
- {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~ replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language if you know which language was used, or {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~ if you cannot identify the language used
- 3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with {{Uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with {{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code (available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is {{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is {{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|datein2weeksfromlisting}}~~~~.
If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:
- 1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
- 2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
- ''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''.
- 3. Add a mention on this page.
If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:
- 1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
| This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency. Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If you have just labeled this page as needing such attention, please add {{subst:Duflu | pg= Pages needing translation into English | Language = | Comments = }} ~~~~to the bottom of Pages needing translation into English. |
- 2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.
[edit] Pages for consideration
and check the language recognition chart.
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

- This person is a writer with 17 books to his or her credit. I don't know whether any of it is notable. Any other opinions? --Cbdorsett (talk) 17:59, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

- These are almost all novels, excepting a book about the Italian poetry in the 20th century. However, I have no idea about Albanian writers, so I'll stay out of this. Admiral Norton (talk) 21:22, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- Can't this be transwikied? -Yupik (talk) 22:16, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- BTW the Albanian wiki doesn't consider her important enough to have included her on their list of Albanian writers, so I'm not convinced about her notability. -Yupik (talk) 22:21, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Taichung bus
The initial language of this article was Chinese. LinguistAtLarge 16:33, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Japan Figure Skating Championships
The language of this article is Japanese. The results table was incomplete, so I copied the names from the ja wiki article. This article needs help translating these names from Japanese to English. Kolindigo (talk) 17:41, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Paula Tsui discography
The language of this article is Chinese. What do we think? Does anyone feel like translating this, or should we just redirect it to the artists page? Jac16888 (talk) 01:23, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- If, after the normal two weeks, this page is still untranslated, I will redirect it instead of prodding it. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 17:46, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bayerischer Fernsehpreis
The language of this article is German. — neuro(talk) 02:22, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Started. This one will be tedious, but pretty easy. If someone starts translating show titles, remember to leave the original German and translate in parentheses. - Jmabel | Talk 06:05, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tzabar
The language of this article is Hebrew. Political party + manifesto. Notable? Jac16888 (talk) 22:33, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- I am in no position to comment on the article itself, but apparently Tzabar is a new young people's political party running in the upcoming Israeli election. I didn't find an official list of parties on any Israeli government sites, but they're mentioned in passing here. I didn't find any more detailed coverage of the party anywhere else. --Finngall talk 18:00, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Toyota Duet
The language of this article is Japanese. The article is a combination of English and Japanese, and according to the article's talk page it is probably machine translated from the ja:トヨタ・デュエット article on the Japanese Wikipedia. —Snigbrook 22:53, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Graeme Allwright
The language of this article is French. A translated version from French Wikipedia is there, but the tenses are wrong, could someone who knows French correct the tenses from the wikipedia FR article (link on talk page) RT | Talk 15:35, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- The main part of the article definitely needs copyedit, but there is a long list of song titles that needs to be translated. --Cbdorsett (talk) 19:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] January 5
[edit] الرمضان
The language of this article is unknown. الرمضان is the name of the article. I have no idea which language it is, but I know that it's formatted from right to left based on how many times I shouted at my screen in anger trying to copy, paste and pipe the title. Hopefully someone else has better luck. Bullzeye (Ring for Service) 07:34, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Here's another link if you can't get that one to work: [1]. Bullzeye (Ring for Service) 07:35, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like Arabic. "الرمضان" may mean "Ramadan". Islamic religious stuff? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it's Arabic. It looks like some kind of treatise - maybe someone's dissertation? Prod. --Cbdorsett (talk) 09:32, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Cecilio Apostol
The language of this article is Spanish. writer of sorts, maybe notable Jac16888 (talk) 20:49, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Empire of Brazil
The language of this article is presumably Spanish but google translator won't translate it for some reason. large sections need translating Jac16888 (talk) 20:49, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- We're talking about Brazil, so it must be Portuguese. Admiral Norton (talk) 22:13, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- It should be specified that only the second half of the article needs translation. It is a rather large article. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 23:57, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Moldovan Csaba
The language of this article is Hungarian. Jac16888 (talk) 20:52, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- This one is a bit suspicious - the contributor's name is "Silly the Third." At the bottom, it says "to be continued..." so that suggests to me some kind of op-ed piece. --Cbdorsett (talk) 06:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] 不折腾

[edit] Miranda de Ebro
This article was translated from a Featured Article on the Spanish Wikipedia. I started cleaning up the language, but more work needs to be done. --Cbdorsett (talk) 22:25, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- There is some truly awful English here, looks like machine translation: a bridge "consists of 6 arcs and it tells on stems both sides", "The present City council rises in the Seat of Spain from 1778". I think that for a lot of this we need to go back to the Spanish original and re-translate. - Jmabel | Talk 17:38, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Léon Gard
The initial language of this article was French. Page appears to have been auto-translated. Almost unreadable. Camillus 23:59, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Le Llano en flammes
The language of this article is French. Auric (talk) 05:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Germanism (linguistics)
Apparent machine translation. Needs re-wikifing and cleaning-up. Kubek15T CS 18:26, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Now that is an ugly thing, especially since the article lacks the German words it is talking about, as these have been translated. I've copyedited some of the shorter subsections, but now I think it may be better to delete it. Listing it at Wikipedia talk:German-speaking Wikipedians' notice board for other opinions. -- Matthead Discuß 18:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bizarra Locomotiva
The language of this article is Portuguese. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 08:12, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's about an "industrial metal" band founded by a musician who has had an article on the English Wikipedia since Janaury 2006. I don't see how this is notable, but I guess it should probably be put in line for translation. --Cbdorsett (talk) 10:00, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like the author translated it themself but it has been tagged for style and tone issues. The article needs some cleanup. De728631 (talk) 18:46, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- There is no article about the band at pt-wiki; I do not see the notability either, and sense a strong conflict of interest. The fact that the band was founded by a musician with an article here forbids speedy deletion. Anyone for prodding? Lectonar (talk) 15:12, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Smkkid
The language of this article is unknown. Jac16888 (talk) 20:26, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yet another article about a school or school system in Malaysia. How many of these have we seen in the last 2 months? Six? I think it should be transwikied. If someone later wants to nominate it for translation, fine, but this does not seem like content that will be interesting to anyone outside of Malaysia. --Cbdorsett (talk) 09:48, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] January 2009
[edit] Tenerife
The language of this article is Spanish. Only a couple sections in the Tenerife article need translation. The largest is #Education, but also #Roads, #Meats, and #Gofio. —Bkell (talk) 23:05, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I believe there are now only a handful of untranslated phrases (I've left them in italics). I've also left a few inline comments where I thought something might be problematic. I suspect we need quite a good translator to get these last few phrases, since I'm certainly no slouch myself. - Jmabel | Talk 19:16, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- Only labels on graphics still need to be translated, and this cannot be done without graphic editing software such as Corel PhotoPaint. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 01:45, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Given the nature of what is left to do, I think the cleanup section is a better place for this entry. -- Blanchardb -Me•MyEars•MyMouth- timed 03:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
