Introduction
Welcome to WikiProject Music theory! This project is a collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage and organization of music theory topics. If you would like to help, please join the project and inquire on the talk page.
If you are new to Wikipedia, the first thing to do is to join. See Wikipedia:How to log in. There is also a FAQ at Wikipedia:Contributing FAQ.
This project was created by User:4meter4 on July 18, 2008.
Goals
  • Expand coverage of music theory topics in Wikipedia.
  • Establish a basic set of guidelines for music theory articles.
  • Recruit Wikipedians into the music theory project.
Scope
The scope of this WikiProject includes:
  1. The mechanics of music and how music works.
  2. Elements of music such as melody, harmony, rhythm, pitch, texture, etc.
  3. Compositional form and structure.
  4. Theories of harmonization.
  5. Music notation.
  6. Music and mathematics.
  7. Musical analysis.
  8. Sight singing and ear training.
  9. Music theorists

The scope of this project covers Western music only and does not cover notation systems or terminology created or used in other cultures.

Code of Conduct
The project believes in collaboration and compromise. Edit warring will not be tolerated. Take the initiative and be bold, but if you encounter opposition discuss matters calmly, either with the user in question on the article's talk page, or the project talk page if a wider audience is desirable. Please don't indulge in a revert-war.
If a member of WikiProject Music theory engages in conduct specified above, please contact that user. If the situation does not resolve, please see the dispute resolution page.
