Wikipedia:WikiProject User warnings/Testing/Deletion notice redesigns

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Working hypothesis

Deletion notifications look like user warnings, even though they're not. Because of their warning-like tone, they discourage editors from performing the actions necessary to save their articles from deletion. The purpose of these redesigns is to:

 1. encourage editors to improve their articles
 2. keep editors from being discouraged if their article is deleted – make sure the message is not "you did something wrong by having an article deleted and therefore we don't value you as a contributor"

Speedy deletion nomination of :{}

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on :{} requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

Hello, WikiProject User warnings/Testing, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I tagged an article that you worked on, {}, for deletion, because it appears to be directly copied from another source. If you're the author of the source or have written permission from the author to use it, you can go to the article's talk page and let me know. If you're not the author, I encourage you to rewrite {} in your own words, using the copyrighted text as a reference. If you're not sure how to do that, please ask at the Help desk, or read the instructions here.

Most importantly, please don't let this discourage you from continuing to edit! We care a lot about the quality of our articles, but we also really value new editors. Thanks again for contributing to Wikipedia!

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on :{} requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.

Hello, WikiProject User warnings/Testing, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I tagged an article that you created, {}, for deletion, because I felt the subject doesn't fit Wikipedia's mission to provide high-quality educational material to a global audience. We can only accept articles that are notable enough to belong in an encyclopedia. If you think {} should stay on Wikipedia, you can click here and explain why the subject is notable. It would also help to add more references to the article that demonstrate notability. If the article does get deleted, don't worry – one of these administrators will be happy to send you a copy.

Most importantly, please don't let this discourage you from continuing to edit! We care a lot about article quality, but we also really value new editors. If you have any questions or need help, feel free to ask at the Help desk. Thanks again for contributing to Wikipedia!

A tag has been placed on :{}, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

Hello, WikiProject User warnings/Testing, and thanks for your contributing to Wikipedia! I wanted to let you know that I tagged an article that you worked on, {}, for deletion, because it looks too much like promotional material for the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and the other editors and I care deeply about its mission to provide free educational material to the entire world, unbiased and free of advertising. If you think I made a mistake, you can go to the article's talk page and let me know why the article should stay on Wikipedia. It would also help to add more references and rework the language of {} to make it sound more encyclopedic.
