Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 26 June 2022

In the intro section, change the |link=Wikipedia:Citation needed to |link=Wikipedia:Citations needed, with an extra s.

Rationale: That paragraph currently renders as

Example: 87 percent of statistics are made up on the spot.[citation needed]

While it's technically correct that sticking a citation needed tag on this page would render like that (links to the current page are transformed into bold), it's not the correct answer to the question that paragraph intends to answer, namely how they render in practice (i.e. in article space).

I'm not aware of any magic wiki syntax to forcibly link to the current page, but linking to a redirect to the current page will render as a link. (Alternatively, there are half a dozen other redirects to here, if you don't like Citations.)

(Untested, MediaWiki doesn't allow previewing that specific part of an edit request.) 155.4.128.166 (talk) 19:12, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done and tested. ...and that's a good catch and neat fix. Thanks! --N8wilson 19:20, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake in the lead section

The second paragraph says, "You can add a citation by selecting from the Cite drop-down menu". But it should be changed to "Insert drop down menu" because that is where I found the option after searching in templates. The Cite menu just has the usual three options- Automatic, Manual and Re-use. Is this a mistake in the lead section that needs to be corrected or am I missing something here? Add a link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Reliability in the "See also" section. Category:Articles with unsourced statements, the category for articles with {{Citation needed}}, has a link to the WikiProject, so it should be linked on this page too. Ijoe2003 (talk) 07:52, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

why is this page Extended confirmed protected?

Per the protection log, the page was protected because of a belief that new editors shouldn't be editing it. Given the nature of the page in question, I'm inclined to agree with that assessment, especially given that editors can submit WP:Edit requests if they can't directly edit the page.
