See drop-down box for suggested article edit guidelines:

  • Be bold - if you know something about Cornwall then put it in! We value your contributions and don't be afraid if your spelling isn't great as there are plenty of spelling and grammar experts on clean-up duty!
  • Articles on settlements in Cornwall should be written using the standard set of headings approved by the UK geography WikiProject's guideline How to write about settlements.
  • At WikiProject Cornwall we subscribe to the policies laid down by Wikipedia - particularly civility and consensus building. We are aware that the wording on Cornish entries can sometimes be a contentious topic, especially those concerning geography. You don't have to agree with everything but there is no excuse for rudeness and these things are best solved through consensus building and compromise. For more information see WP:CornwallGuideline.
  • These pages are not platforms for political discussion. Issues relating to Cornish politics should be restricted to those pages that directly deal with these issues (such as Constitutional status of Cornwall, Cornish nationalism, etc) and should not overflow into other articles.
  • Most of all have fun editing - that's the reason we all do this, right?!

Proposed county infobox template change[edit]

A discussion is ongoing at Template talk:Infobox English county#Proposal: remove the ethnicity section which is likely of interest to this project. The original proposal is for straight removal of the ethnicity field from the template but keeping the population field. A modification to the proposal seeks the addition of two optional, undefined statistical fields within the non-metropolitan and unitary authority sections of the county infoboxes — at present there are no demographic statistical fields, other than population under these headings. Standard Written Form label[edit]

Hi, just noticed on a few articles such as Bodmin Moor and Land's End that it displayed the standard Cornish name with just "Standard Written Form", e.g.

Land's End (Standard Written Form: Penn an Wlas or Pedn an Wlas) is a

but as discussed at the SWF page itself, the title is quite vague and did not make me think of Cornish first. So I boldly altered it to "Cornish Standard Written Form", is this re-wording acceptable? I raise it here as it seemed to be more widespread than initially thought (i.e. at Padstow), so asking before I come across any more. Would prefer "Standard Cornish" unless it is incorrect to refer SWF as such.

Tbh I probably wasn't clear, just saying, that with no opposition so far, I may change the "Standard Written Form" to "Cornish Standard Written Form", or maybe "Standard Cornish" now I think about it, in leads. I don't know a lot of Cornish, so just wanted to ask before! DankJae 01:42, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Standard Cornish is a totally different orthography from the Standard Written Form. The Standard Written Form has two official forms used by Cornwall Council, SWF (Middle) and SWF (Late), hence the two forms for Land's End, Penn an Wlas - SWF (M) and Pedn an Wlas - (SWF (L). 'Cornish SWF' or 'Cornish Standard Written Form' would be the two best choices. Brwynog (talk) 18:39, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely don't use 'Standard Cornish'.  Tewdar  19:08, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, noted. I may have done it once forgot where. Will use "Cornish Standard Written Form" (/SWF) going forward. DankJae 15:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
