Brighton & Hove bus route 7 is a bus route running between Hove and Brighton Marina in Brighton and Hove, England, operated by Brighton & Hove. In 2018 the annual ridership was over 5 million,[1] with a bus every 8 minutes.[2]

History[edit]

Route 7 was first introduced on 16 March 1986, running from Blatchington Road to Bristol Estate. On 25 May 1997, it was updated to run from George Street to Brighton Marina, which was extended to Portslade during peak times on 24 May 1998.[3]

The route's night service, numbered N7, was introduced on 26 September 2006, running from George Street to Brighton Marina. The service was updated on 23 September 2007 to run from Shoreham to Brighton Marina, which was reverted on 28 September 2008.[3]

Four other routes which have since been discontinued used the number 7. Route 7A, which ran from Hove Street (later Eaton Road) to Hove Station was introduced on 26 May 1996 before it was renumbered to route 7C on 25 May 1997. After being renumbered, this route was replaced to run from George Street to Bristol Estate before it was replaced by route 37 on 6 April 2003. On 26 May 1996, route 7B was introduced, running from Hove Street to Hove Station before its replacement by 7A on 4 October 1996. This route returned on 1 October 2000, running from George Street to Brighton Marina via Bristol Estate before it was withdrawn on 29 April 2001. Route 7C, introduced on 25 May 1997, ran from Eaton Road to Hove Station before its withdrawal on 4 October 1998. Introduced on 12 June 2016, route 7X ran from Brighton Station to Brighton Marina before it was withdrawn on 11 September 2016. Between 18 July and 10 September 2016, Compass Travel operated route 7X on behalf of Brighton & Hove.[3]
