Zeon Chriss is an American football quarterback for the Houston Cougars. He previously played for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

Early life and high school

Chriss grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended Madison Prep Academy. In his high school career, Chriss completed 183 of his 339 pass attempts for 2,954 yards, 45 touchdowns and six interceptions. Chriss would also rush for 629 yards and eight touchdowns, while also hauling in a reception for 12 yards.[1] Chriss was rated as a three-star recruit and committed to play college football at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette over offers from Memphis, San Diego State, Appalachian State, South Alabama, Army, Air Force, Miami (OH) and William & Mary.[2][3]

College career

During Chriss's true freshman season in 2022, he played in four games and finished the season with completing nine out of 15 passing attempts with a touchdown and 33 rushing yards on six attempts.[4] He made his collegiate debut against Arkansas State.[5] During a game against Texas State, Chriss went for five out of six passing attempts for 84 yards and a touchdown to win and help the Ragin' Cajuns become bowl eligible.[6] During the 2022 Independence Bowl, he made four out of six passing attempts with 26 rushing yards on four attempts.[7]

During the 2023 season, he played in eight games and started six of them. He finished the season with completing 102 out of 153 passing attempts for 1,222 yards and 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.[8] Chriss made his debut as a starting quarterback against Buffalo where he completed 22 out of 29 passing attempts for 249 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.[9] While playing against Arkansas State during the fourth quarter, he unfortunately suffered a broken fibula which had him sit out for the rest of the season.[10]

On December 20, 2023, Chriss announced that he would be entering the transfer portal.[11]

On January 3, 2024, Chriss announced that he would be transferring to Houston.[12]
