Fadil Sylejmani
Fadil Sylejmani (5 December 1940, Bozovce - 11 February 2013, Tetova) was an Albanologist, university professor, and the first rector of the University of Tetova.[1]
Biography[edit]
Fadil Sylejmani, born on 5 December 1940, in the village of Bozovcë in the Municipality of Tetova, had a notable career in the field of education and culture in North Macedonia. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tetovo and pursued higher education in Prishtina and Belgrade. Upon returning from his studies, he worked as a teacher and later as a professor at various educational institutions in Prishtina and Tetova.[2]
In the 1990s, Sylejmani was involved in the establishment of the University of Tetova, the first institution of higher education in the Albanian language in North Macedonia. He played a leading role in organizing and developing this university.
Throughout his career, Sylejmani engaged in academic activities, contributing to various fields of education and culture. However, his activities also faced some controversies and challenges, including a period of political persecution and imprisonment in 1994.
Following his death in 2013,[3] Sylejmani was honored as one of the significant figures in the history of education and culture in North Macedonia. His legacy and influence in society remain subject to evaluation and public debate.[4]
