English: Karkheh Dam is the largest multi-purpose earthen embankment dam in the Middle East in terms of the volume of the dam body which is 22 kilometers northwest of Andimeshk, Khuzestan province. It is the largest artificial lake and dam in the history of Iran. It took a decade to build this dam. The executive operation of this dam started in 1370 and ended in 1380.
The purpose of building the Karkhe dam was to produce energy and irrigate the lands of the Abbas plain and to deal with the seasonal floods of the Karkhe river. A power plant that produces electricity with a capacity of 400 megawatts per hour and has not forgotten the Abbas plain. Although the supply and regulation of water, irrigation of 320 thousand hectares of downstream land was entrusted to Karkheh. هدف ساخت سد کرخه تولید انرژی و آبیاری اراضی دشت عباس و مقابله با سیل‌های فصلی رود کرخه بود. نیروگاهی که با ظرفیت 400 مگاوات بر ساعت برق تولید می‌کند و دشت عباس را هم از یاد نبرده است. هرچند تامین و تنظیم آب، آبیاری 320هزار هکتار از اراضی پایین دست هم به کرخه سپرده شد. |
