Description
English: Bergeret takes the subject of this painting from Giorgio Vasari, artist hands-on of the 16th century who has primarily made a name as a biographer. In its fast (1550), a collection of biographies of artists, he described the capture of Filippo Lippi by the Moors. Lippi was able to obtain his release by a faithful portrait of his abductor to charcoal. The story relies on the common place that wants that Muslims are not accustomed to the figurative images. It is the realism of the portrait which impressed the Moor and led to grant amnesty to Lippi.
