Lepteutypa cupressi (Nattrass, C. Booth & B. Sutton) H.J. Swart, (1973) Image location: Sailboat Cove, Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, Maryland Heights, Missouri, USA This is the telemorph stage of the Seiridium Canker, a pathogenic fungus affecting a wide range of hosts including Cedar, Juniper, Thuja, and other genera in the Cupressaceae family. Since its relatively recent introduction to N. A. (first reported in California), it has spread across the country to Florida via the South Central and Southeastern states. This observation: on lower branches of live Juniper (believed to be Juniperus virginiana), elongated, shallow sunken cankers with small, black blister-like fruiting bodies (spores are released from these fruit bodies); resinous exudate oozing from cracks in the bark and also appearing at the margins of the cankers.
