3rd_Herne_Bay_Pier_1932-1939_002a.jpg(380 × 352 pixels, file size: 57 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

Section from postcard of the third Herne Bay Pier, built 1899. This section shows the stone balustrade taken from London Bridge and used for the entrance of the first Herne Bay Pier in 1832. It was repositioned a few times and by the time of this photo it had been there 100 years. It was removed in 1953 after storm damage. Its present whereabouts are unknown.

Note: This small image is the one of the very few images that can be found, as of 2021, of the London Bridge balustrade which is now lost from the pier site. Please do not remove or replace this image, as it is of historical significance. This significance overrides image quality. Thank you.
