Article

American Chess Quarterly

Portion used

Single cover

Low resolution?

Yes

Purpose of use

To provide visual evidence for and identification of the magazine, journal or periodical discussed in the linked article. The front cover of the first edition is used as this aids identification of the work concerned.

Replaceable?

As the cover is assumed copyright, it would not be possible to provide an identical free replacement. Use of an alternative cover would also be impossible as all covers of the work mentioned would also still be subject to copyright. Use of an alternative non-cover image would not meet the purpose stated.

Other information

The publication name is clearly visible. To my knowledge, no free-use version of this image, or any appropriate substitute, is available. The image is used solely to illustrate the Wikipedia article on this publication, American Chess Quarterly. I consider the use of this low-resolution photograph of the first issue of a long-defunct magazine (publication ceased in 1965) to be fair use in order to illustrate the Wikipedia article about that magazine.
