Summary

Description
English: Amy Johnson's Birthplace, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.

154 St. George's Road, Hull, showing a blue heritage plaque dedicated to Johnson. Amy Johnson was born here on 1st July 1903, the daughter of John William Johnson, a member of the old established family firm of Andrew Johnson, Knudtzon and Company, fish merchants, and Amy Hodge, granddaughter of William Hodge, Mayor of Hull in 1860.

Amy grew up to become a pioneer aviatrix famous in her own lifetime. After many headline-making flights she drowned at the age of 37, crashing her plane in the Thames Estuary during World War II on 5th January 1941 while flying for the Air Transport Auxiliary of the British Armed Forces.

The family lived in this terraced house on St. George's Road until Amy was about six years old.
