Summary
DescriptionAncient-Akropolis-Nestane Arcadia Greece.jpg |
English: Rests of the ancient town and palace of Nestane (5th -3rd century BC; next to the village Nestani), Arcadia, Peloponnese. Situated on a hill, the palace controlled the closed karst depression “Argon Pedion” and the most important entry to the Arcadian highlands, where there is an assembly of several, even larger karst basins. In this part of Arcadia there were other important ancient towns (like Tegea] and Mantineia, (biggest city today: Tripoli, Greece, ca. 50000 inhabitants). The term “untilled plain” (Greek: Argon Pedion), documented in “Description of Greece” by Pausanias (110-180 AD) describes a field flooded in case of heavy winter rains (this happens even today). |
