Summary[edit]

Portrait of Anne Tancred, daughter of Thomas Tancred, woollen draper of St Paul's Covent Garden and wife of Thomas Webbe (d.1780), linen draper, of York Street, St Paul's, Covent Garden (1740s), Brook Green Hammersmith (1770s). By circle of Joseph Highmore (1692-1780). Sold by Sotheby's Olympia, London, 13 July 2005, sale no.W05703, lot 5. Provenance: hanging at Sutton Place, Surrey in 1893, as described by Frederic Harrison in "Annals of an Old Manor House, Sutton Place, Guildford, London, 1899, p.197. Thomas and Anne Webbe were the parents of John Webbe-Weston, heir of Sutton Place in 1782. The same artist made a portrait of Thomas Webbe, sold in the same auction, lot 4.
